Title: Any point in explaining?
Post by: Julsie on September 06, 2022, 06:29:01 AM
So as I said previously,  as of a few days ago, my son has announced that we are estranged. He has this pattern of letting me know that he's doing something harmful before cutting off, this time drinking again,  by implication,  that's my fault. He's been admitted before with pancreatitis. Is it worth explaining how cruel this is? Knowing I'd be worried sick, Knowing how many times I've waited for the police to knock on the door with 'that' news, and he does. Does he just up the ante every time he does something wrong, which he has in the past, knowing that it puts me through hell but he's testing how much I care? Even at the cost of death.
I find it very hard to believe that he's unaware of this or is it a maladaptive way of interacting that's developed over the years? Very confused.

My first reaction would be to tell you to get to an AL Anon meeting. I would be curious to know if anyone with a BPD child (or any loved one) has gotten help from Al Anon. I went to Celebrate Recovery (Christian 12-step group) for several years and felt it did help. Now I see a counselor, which I would definitely recommend for anyone dealing with a pwBPD. I decided my mental health was worth the cost. Al Anon is free and might be a good start. My heart breaks for you. Take care of yourself. You are not alone.
