Title: Vent - another misdiagnosis Post by: Outdorenthusiast on February 26, 2023, 02:43:19 PM Ugh - my uBPD wife just explained that her new therapist now thinks she has Adult ADD and will test for that. (Insert eye roll here…)
Previous diagnoses from various therapists/psychologists include: PTSD, Anxiety, Severe Depression, Bi-Polar, did I miss anything? I guess add one more right? IDK, don’t care - doesn’t change me or my coping mechanisms, I figured it out already after 25 years of exposure and since she has 8 out of the 9 characteristics. lol. I validated her excited feelings and let it go…at worst it is just another comorbidity. (Shoulder shrug) I don’t talk to her therapists to keep everything neutral. She already knows what I think - she saw all my books I have read to help myself *). I will let them figure it out in their own time. Title: Re: Vent - another misdiagnosis Post by: Pook075 on February 26, 2023, 04:39:08 PM I sometimes feel that labels are more important to people struggling with mental health than the actual mental health problems themselves. My wife and adult kid have BPD, and my kid comes home with a new theory monthly- the latest was that she was on the autistic spectrum. And I was like, "Huh. Okay. That's really interesting..."
Only it wasn't interesting at all, it was extremely annoying because we've played the "what am I??" game for 10+ years now. My kid gets really excited about it every time though and I can't understand that at all. Anyway, I feel for you and I'm sorry it's such a tough journey. Keep your head up and keep your eyes on the prize. Regardless of the added comorbidities, the answer doesn't change one bit. |
