Title: Learning communication strategies and how to set limits
Post by: Namaste2020 on April 02, 2023, 07:46:51 PM
Hi, just wanted to try to find a group of people who are going through what I am going through.  Is there such a thing as a support group that meets regularly?  I’d love to learn from others and discuss current situations with other people who can relate.

I’m learning how to communicate effectively and set limits (boundaries) with my 24 year old daughter.

Thanks!

Hi Namaste2020, welcome to the group -- you're in the right place to be with people who get it. Parenting a child when BPD is involved is not straightforward, and when it's a young adult child, it can be very challenging. So glad you decided to get some more support here.

The well-regarded National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder (https://www.borderlinepersonalitydisorder.org/) (NEA-BPD for short) runs "Family Connections" support groups (https://www.borderlinepersonalitydisorder.org/family-connections/) that I believe do meet regularly. While I've heard that there can be a waiting list, the classes are free and meet for 12 weeks. Worth a look!

Additionally, while there aren't "scheduled" groups here on bpdfamily.com, the message boards are open 24/7 and members from all over the world post at many times. Please do feel free to browse and post whenever works best for you.

Looking forward to learning more about your situation, and again, welcome;
