Title: Burnout
Post by: CreateHarmony on May 15, 2023, 10:56:13 PM
 :help:

What are your resources?

What do you do to recharge your system & adrenals, once reaching burnout?

& What are some natural resources that perhaps you've utilized to assist your loved one in moments of struggle?

I have been struggling to maintain stable ground for my spouse, & myself.
I typically have a big capacity to hold space & help navigate when difficulties have surfaced; although recently have come to a point of feeling completely drained.

We live in quite an isolated place & nearest community is hours away. Here to build upon creating harmony & a community to maintain engagement & share experience with.

 :caution:

my spouse has been "self medicating" cannabis, to numb when emotions arise.. they have been struggling to feel to heal & be present with any feelings that arise. The addiction has been strenuous on both of our wellbeings & quality of life. There has been times they attempt to stop, & the withdrawal has brought the mental state to a dangerous point. It has been a long time of them feeding this addiction & in that, telling their body & brain that it is not safe to feel emotion.. it has become more & more challenging for them to process or navigate events or emotions. & thus, therefore more challenging for me to hold space or help to guide them through the process.

I do not consume cannabis, although did over a decade ago.

I have found NAC supplement has helped in the past, immensely!
It helps to re-stem & re-pattern brain pathways.. thus, can help to breakthrough addiction & other mental struggles.
This is mainly helpful when vices are not present & with extensive support & positive reinforcement.

Thank you for taking the time to read & share presence with me.

I pray for further engagement & guidance.

Hi CreateHarmony,

I am really sorry you are struggling right now. You are not alone; living with a loved one who may be struggling with BPD and addiction is really hard and it makes sense that you would be feeling drained. It is a lot.

Many of the members will be able to relate to this, so I think this community can be a very valuable resource for you.  I am fairly new to this community myself, but I just wanted to let you know that I have found this site to be full of very useful resources including lessons provided at the top of the boards with helpful links to different relevant topics, even online videos, so I highly recommend taking a look at the Tools tab at the top. Trying to learn more about BPD can be really helpful in trying to understand and make some sense as to what you might be experiencing

I am learning that one of the most important things to do when feeling drained is self-care, making sure you are prioritizing your well-being, your sleep, your nutrition, and spend time doing things you enjoy and make yourself stronger. What kind of things do you enjoy for yourself? It helps me to make a list of all the things I enjoy doing, and when I am feeling overwhelmed or drained, I focus on self-care and then I try to pick something off of my list to do. I enjoy listening to music, singing karaoke, going on walks, tennis, talking to friends, listening to audiobooks that I can borrow online from the public library.

As much as we want to help our partners, we cannot fix or control how they think or behave. We only have control over our own actions and how we choose to respond to our situations, and one way to respond is by committing to take care of ourselves.

Glad you found this community - take care and keep reaching out as needed. Sometimes just having a place to vent our frustrations among members who understand, feels so nice.
