Title: Please Suggest Strategies For the Rages
Post by: izzitme on October 09, 2023, 05:56:59 AM
Hello,

My unhusband rages at the littlest thing and then assasinates my character, me as a person and also my son. I need some strategies for not reacting in these situations. I always make things worse and then feel like crap about myself for the duration.

Thank you so much, I am at the end of my rope.

Hi Izzitme,

You're not alone! When my husband rages I have been trying to go in a different room and let him have his moment. If he follows me into another room or we can't leave the room for one reason or another I tell him I'm not going to participate in the discussion until you calm down. Some times it works and other times it doesn't. If it doesn't work, I try to ignore him until it passes. It's really hard to not take it personally and I'm still working on not doing that. I hope this makes sense! I'm still learning as well.

What kinds of things are making stuff worse?

Being at the end of your rope is a hard spot to be in. Are you doing things to take care of yourself?

These are some of the hardest caregiving relationships. We have to make sure we're somewhere near the top of the list (oxygen mask, etc.).

How old is your son?
