Title: Caregiving my elderly BPD parent alone
Post by: Here2HelpMe on August 25, 2024, 08:05:51 AM
Grateful to find this site as mentioned in the book Walking on Eggshells. I am just realizing my dad may have BPD. I’m overwhelmed with caregiving and need support and tools to deal with his constant chaos creating tantrums and behaviors.

You aren't "alone" here- there are several of us with elderly parents who have BPD. I am not my BPD mother's caregiver although I am involved with her in helping managing her situation. One question is- what services is your father eligible for? Would he qualify for Medicaid- which I think has nursing home options and possibly home care? I know Medicare doesn't cover much. If he isn't in need of funding and has assets- could those be used for caregivers some of the time? This is a challenging situation- and so finding some way to get help may be helpful to you.
