Title: What are the initials next to topics (e.g. SO, CD, FM)?
Post by: czarsmom on May 17, 2011, 02:28:08 PM
My question is, how does the FO or CD or FM get next to the post?  I want to put that I'm FM, since my mom is BPD.  I searched around in my profile, but couldn't find it.

Hi czarsmom and  *welcome*!

The option to add "FM" or other category actually appears when you start a new thread. A drop down should appear under the subject line. You won't be able to add it to the posts in which you're replying to someone else, but you can for those threads you initiate.

Hope that helps!

These abbreviations are for newbies posting on the new member board .  The abbreviations identify the category of newbie (the relationship of the person with BPD in the new member's life) so that regular members can more quickly identify people to help.  These abbreviations also call out newbies in the "unread posts" lists so that we all can see thath there is someone new that needs our help.

When you see these designations - please show your support and post.

Title: New Members - select one:

I'd like to set up my profile so I don't have to select this every time I post (I'd like it to default to SO).  Is there a way to do this?

Hello 4kids,

The SO, FM, CD codes are set to posts, not to profiles, so I'm afraid there is no default function. Their use is primarily on the new members board, where members with many types of relationships come together. On most of the main boards, the type of relationship is easier to figure out as the board has a specific focus (SOs staying, SOs undecided, SOs leaving, family members (FM), and so on).

That makes sense; thanks for explaining it.

I also see lots of other letters before/after BPD.  Is there a tutorial on definitions?  I am new and want to be sure I am not missing something

Good question.  I was here for many months pretending to know what stbuBPDx meant

The glossary is in the green tab at the top of the board.  This will help: What do all these abbreviations and terms mean? (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=26601.0)
