Title: Best book for helping pwBPD accept treatment Post by: cfh on January 02, 2013, 10:46:47 AM I've read most of the recommended books but I think I need a refresher. I see my biggest challenge coming up is to convince ds that he needs treatment for substance abuse in addition to BPD.
He acknowledges his struggles with MI and actually likes DBT but he thinks that he no longer has a problem with drugs because they are all prescribed by a pdoc. He's a former heroin addict, meth, acid, you name it he did it. When he is out on his own he does not take them as prescribed. For example he was crushing them and shooting up rather than just swallowing them. Also, he does not see smoking pot as a problem in fact he feels that it is the only thing that really unscrambles his mind. Obviously being in jail he is closely monitored but if he gets out he will be back to his old ways. I need to be really prepared to have this conversation with him in a way that he will listen.
