Title: More RTC reviews requested...
Post by: spudsnsalsa on May 30, 2014, 05:04:57 PM
So basically a newbie here and apologizing in advance if I don't quite have all the jargon and abbreviations down yet!

BPDd16 is currently in-patient for the 5th time, 2nd time in the past 30 days, for depression with suicidal ideations. Despite almost 4 years of psychiatrists, psychologists, therapeutic day schools, and therapists she has spiraled downward and in the process sucked her father, sister, and myself dry. School system would love if I'd just give yet another therapeutic day school a try but have agreed to an IEP review of placement this Monday at the pdoc request that we find her a residential placement with some amount of DBT. To be best prepared I am spending a few days researching as many options as I can in order to have a list to offer to the IEP team... . given they only knew of one and it is adoption/RAD specializing [she was adopted at 3yo] in southern Illinois. After touring that one, I am NOT impressed and actually have learned from that tour of some things now to ask that I had never dreamed would even be issues!

Wondering if anyone on the forum have any personal knowledge of The Grove School in Madison, Connecticut; South Shore Academy in Valparaiso, Indiana; or Tamarack in Spokane, Washington. Read the posts regarding Falcon Ridge and Sunrise in Utah and Youth Villages in Georgia already, thank you. No need to recommend any of the religious based programs like Timberline Ridge either, thank you.

She is not a runner, not addicted to anything yet, no sexual abuse that we know of, very impulsive, very obsessive tendencies, a cutter, 4 suicide attempts and chronically suicidal and definitely uses her claims of being suicidal to manipulate others, incessant and escalating peer issues, chronically anxious about abandonment/rejection, and chronically filled with a sense of emptiness/boredom/loneliness, rages when she is told no... . well you all know! Basically a sweet and gentle person who directs all her anger on herself and is not aggressive or homicidal to others... . but her stubbornly illogical/crazy lying and manipulation/splitting are driving family and friends away in droves! I'm only just finally seeing that the suggestion to get her into a residential program is actually going to do more good than harm... . because up until this last stint in the ICU I felt the "abandonment" into a RTC would compound the issue... . now the possibility of her actually succeeding in the next suicide attempt is too real and we all could use some peace of mind!
