As for long term care, here in France, it's up to the hospital after the person's received treatment. But from what I've heard, they go more and more for "day care" where the person goes to the hospital everyday to receive treatment, but sleeps at home. I would recommend calling your local crisis center. They will ask you a bunch of questions and help you assess the situation and give you information about the options available in your area.
My sister's husband and I tried to get my sister committed and the most they would do is send an officer to her house to do a welfare check. Also, it is good if you have other people that can corroborate what the sibling is doing. In my area, if three people will go down and sign a paper saying that the person needs help, they will bring them in for observation. I think it is a mental health warrant. But practically, since he wouldn't see a doctor, calling an ambulance can be enough (ambulance doctor + hospital one). |
