I know both from personal dealings and through my Brother's conversations with his wife that she can turn a pleasant conversation into a discussion from hell at the drop of the proverbial hat. Admittedly, I had been lurking on this site for about a month. It contains advice and information that my Brother finds helpful for sanity maintenance. I'm glad you are trying to help your brother. Do you have your own screen name for this site? I could see this getting confusing if sometimes the actual brother is posting and sometimes it is you.
