Title: Just found out my husband has BPD
Post by: Lisa11 on May 28, 2016, 10:50:13 AM
Hi

I have been aware that my husband has mental health problems since we met 4 years ago. We got married last year and things have gone downhill from there. Last Tuesday he took an overdose and the psychiatric team told us he has been diagnosed with BPD 14 years ago when he attempted to take his life after his first marriage broke up but he never knew this (his mum has confirmed). He promises he will get help but I wonder if he will! Where do I go from here?

Hi Lisa11,

*welcome*

I'm sorry to hear that. I can see how scary and emotionally distressing that would feel when we're unsure about a loved ones getting help for themselves

I'm glad that you have found us, many members can relate with you and offer guidance and support. You're not alone.

He says that he's going to get help, you both went through a lot this past week. How did you both feel when you heard the diagnosis? How supportive have friends and family been for both of you? It helps to talk.

Hi Lisa11,

Welcome and hello  :)

I'm glad you found the site and sorry for what brings you here. Members here have walked in your shoes and will walk alongside you as you learn about BPD, and learn some of the communication skills that can mitigate conflict.

How is your husband doing at the moment? Is he home with you?

It is a good sign that he agrees he needs help, and that you have a name for what he struggles with. This is a really supportive site with people who genuinely care.
