Title: ex wife has BPD I think
Post by: mccarus on September 05, 2016, 01:24:58 PM
My 22 year old daughter lives with me. I'm 51. Her mom and 3 younger siblings live two streets away. My daughter brought a book to her room that I found on her nightstand. It's called surviving a borderline parent. I couldn't put it down for an hour. She highlighted tons of sentences and paragraphs. I fit some of the description but most fits her mom. For three days I feel that the pain is closer while I feel relieved that my daughter is the one to have found a description and possible tool box for dealing with this. I am glad it wasn't me that found it. And I am glad we have something now. I want to read every book on the subject this week. I probably need tons of help and would like to find a shrink who knows about this stuff where I live in Detroit.

Many of us have a few BPD traits.  It is only when you have 5 of the 7 that the label of BPD is generally given.  This article might help: IS IT BPD? (https://bpdfamily.com/content/what-borderline-personality-disorder)

How old are the children that are living with their mom?  Are you seeking a therapist for you?

Do you plan to have a conversation with your daughter about the book?
