Title: Question: Meds no therapy or therapy no meds
Post by: 7babies on March 17, 2017, 07:49:33 AM
My 18 yo currently on day 9 in the hospital has agreed to try Invega for 6 weeks. She was previously seeing a counselor with no meds and... .she's in the hospital. She wants to stop therapy because " she needs to catch up in school". She says she might go back in the summer but I'm doubtful. Frankly, every blow up was after a therapy session. I know she believes that if we return to no meds/ no counseling she will again be fine. I understand that because she was fine until saying she was depressed. Whether it was coincidence that her decline began with treatment I don't know but it is connected in her head. Anyone have any experience?  Her dad feels like 6 weeks pretty much gets us to the end of school. Her having a high school diploma means he has done his job and she can support herself if her disruptions have us asking her to leave.

Hi there 7babies

I'm so sorry I didn't see that there wasnt a reply to your post.

You ask a really good question.

My BPDs26 hasn't sought therapy (assessment due very soon.)  He got diagnosed at 24 and has been self medicating with weed and takes Prozac (unprescribed) to help him sleep.  So I'm not able to offer much personal experience about the drugs/therapy.

Your daughter has agreed to the meds but doesn't want therapy. It seems to me that she's exploring a way that will help her graduate and help her cope better. Does the hospital want her to continue with the therapy?  She's starting to take responsibility for herself and that's a good sign,

I hope this helps you
