Title: Dealing with BPD mom
Post by: Capstone on June 12, 2017, 05:47:45 PM
I suspect my 85yr old mom suffers from undiagnosed BPD. When I'm under stress dealing with her I see BPD traits in myself like fear of abandonment and black and white negative thinking. What can I do to help myself and/or her and my father who is the hunt of her devalueing abuse.

Hi Capstone

Welcome to our site. We are a rather large family working together at growing and learning more about BPD and what we can do to help as we struggle in the relationships we have with someone who has BPD traits. There is a wonderful list over on the right hand side of our board ------> Have you taken a peak yet? Any sentence you click on will open up with more information.

It is not uncommon for someone who has grown up around a pwBPD to fear that they have many of the traits as well. There is so much projection which takes place by the BPD that it is not at all uncommon for us to absorb some of the things which our parent either shared or taught us as a way to live and survive.

I am going to share a couple of helpful links for you to start with.

A 3 Minute Lesson on Ending Conflict (https://bpdfamily.com/content/ending-conflict)

Escaping Conflict and the Karpman Drama Triangle (https://bpdfamily.com/content/karpman-drama-triangle)

Is there a particular area that you would like to work on? Most important of all, please know that we are not responsible for changing the pwBPD. We can change ourselves and how we relate though, and self care is extremely important if you wish to begin to break the cycle and get healthier. It is a journey that begins with that first step such as your reaching out to us all here.
