I'm guessing that might be the reason FIL is not too keen on discovery. It has to be frustrating for you that there were hidden assets? Regardless if he’s keen on it or not they could have chosen to disclose those assets but they didn’t. Getting a good divorce settlement is one thing. Proving that a public figure engage in fraud is another. Many things outside of court proceedings are "sworn" and carry penalties of perjury... which moves things from civil to criminal. You may never get the discovery... .my hope for you is that if it comes to that... you get a much larger settlement as "payment" for not dragging him through this. Also, as a strategy, NEVER reveal what you know until you absolutely have to.
