With liens being put on the home, this may be an added reason to have the house excluded from any settlement deal so you are separated from whatever complications - a lot! - that would come with the house.

Even if the other side 'promised' to fix those issues, getting actual compliance is very iffy, courts typically are very reluctant to enforce or force compliance with either the settlements or even their own orders.

Thanks, ForeverDad
I was actually joking with a friend that it figured my FIL would give me a house with a lien on it.

The attorney might want out after getting to know FIL and what is going on.

It could also be a delay tactic since FIL will need time to get another attorney. Who knows how long that will take. If I recall correctly he drags things out to outlast his opponents.

It is also a good strategy to deflect by doing something your adversary does not expect. This way they will be using energy to figure out what the other side is doing and why.

I would make sure you are not liable for any of the liens.

I doubt it is a "tactic".  Should it ever be uncovered it was a tactic, that is a serious ethical issue.

Much more likely the attorney realized they would be "tainted" by continuing and distanced from the case.

Looking forward to catching up with you soon.
