Title: Not sure where to go from here
Post by: doch on November 06, 2019, 02:33:29 PM
Young adult (25 year old son)
He went to DBT for a year and was doing well but because of his past he has not been able to get a job or get accepted to law school (despite scoring in the 90% on the LSAT).
Broke his heart.
He stopped going to DBT.  Living with grandparents. Has one friend, his girlfriend.
Has decided capitalism is the worst thing in the world.  Decided he is a Communist.
I know he is doing this because he is so hurt by rejection.  The past was over four years ago and he had record expunged as everything was dropped by evil ex girlfriend as nothing happened.  Problem is local paper refuses to take down headlines.

I am at a loss.  He is such an great young man but has given up.  He wants to live in the woods and become a hermit.  Crying inside.

Hi doch
I literally feel your pain because my 25 year old son is basically in that giving up.space too. It is heartbreaking. But it is not hopeless. Your son is obviously quite smart. He is maintaining what appears to be a healthy relationship with his girlfriend. He has done well in DBT before. Perhaps one day he will move past his very understandable feelings of frustration and try again at life. What is his relationship with his grandparents like?

He is wonderful to his grandparents.  He treats his father terribly and me touch and go.  But he is kind and sweet to his grandparents.
Thank you for asking.

That kind of splitting is not unusual. It is a good thing he has his grandparents to help hum. Are they your parents or your in laws? I am trying to get a more full picture of your family system so we can better help you.
