Title: Angry daughter, I would like us to be better
Post by: amlw on November 06, 2019, 07:16:15 PM
I really need help with learning how to not force reality on my daughter, to try not to activate her.  I'm a fixer by nature, and it is really aggravating to her.  I love her, and at the same time, want to retreat from her anger, which I know will make her worse. Please respond if this sounds familiar.

Hello amlw
Welcome to the group. I am glad you are here. What you describe with your daughter is very familiar to me and to many who post here. You came to the right place to talk about it. My son is not the biggest fan of reality either. But the thing about reality is it doesn't need us to force it. It shows up all by itself. Sometimes the best thing to do is simply step back and let our children face the natural consequences of their actions all by themselves. The 12 step groups call it detaching with love. I am working on doing it myself as are quite a few of us. We will be happy to have you join us on this journey. How old is your daughter? Has she been diagnosed with BPD? What are you doing to keep yourself centered as you cope with her illness?
Hugs
Faith
