Title: DD17 from OCD to BPD
Post by: happysad on September 17, 2020, 05:48:05 PM
My DD17 has been receiving treatment for OCD and depression for a couple of years. Lately, her behavior has escalated and her the therapist is talking BPD. I started reading the posts and articles and I could see myself or my DD in lots of them. The great personality, the social "facade", the lying, the drug use (weed), the interpretation of facts to match her feelings but not necessarily the truth, the rage tirades, the confrontation, the feeling that I am being manipulated sometimes, the suicide threats, the threats to run away... I am at a loss. I have started seeing a therapist myself to help me through it. We are working hard to set boundaries and deal with her reactions, to use drug tests if that means no risk that she will be driving around while high, ... sometimes In think how can all this be happening to us, to our sweet DD? Thankfully, here I found lots of helpful tips and encouragement...

Thanks for writing and welcome.I see hope here:
~ Your daughter is in therapy
~ You have your own therapist.
This is a great start on the difficult BPD journey.  It is not unusual for BPD to occur with other mental health issues. My son's first diagnosis was OCD when he was in 4th grade.  As he grew, the diagnoses got added onto / some morphed into other things, etc.
It is terrifying when you see your child changing and you have no idea what you are looking at.  Again, lean heavily on your therapist.  Also, you can also possibly talk to your daughter's therapist for a short window of time while she is still a minor.
You are not alone.  Write here as often as you need to.
