They are locked after 30 posts (1page). We try and keep the length of threads manageable for smartphone readers.

Hi Patty, Thanks. I knew of that rule but I saw a topic on the co-parenting board which has been locked after after only a few posts. I wondered why that was?

Sometimes the thread host asks that a topic be locked, or sometimes a topic is locked if it is becoming too contentious, usually after discussion via pm with the thread originator.

I'm just curious, some are not locked down at all. Why?

We strive to offer both a supportive and an educational environment for members to learn from. So you will find that for workshops, lessons, article/book reviews and in depth discussions of highly relevant topics marked with an (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/Themes/default/images/post/workshop.gif)  or (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/Themes/default/images/post/feature.gif) there are no page limits. This threads are periodically pruned to keep them hard hitting and information dense. These type of threads are setup encourage members to participate to the fullest degree in the learning process.

There are page limits that we apply to general posts from members though. Once a general thread reaches 30 posts (1 page) we lock that topic and encourage members to start a new topic thread.

Hope that helps clarify  :)

Wondering about this too. If a thread gets locked, can the OP go start another thread that is exactly the same? TY

Hi Elizabeth

If a thread is locked because it has reached the page limit then yes, you can start a new thread with the same topic.

If there is another reason posted for locking a thread it's best to wait till it is resolved before starting a new thread.

Hope this helps.  :)

There is a key, a little icon to the left of all threads on the message index page (example (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?board=2.0)).

(https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/Themes/default/images/topic/normal_post.gif) means the thread is open.

(https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/Themes/default/images/topic/hot_post.gif) means the thread is eligible to be locked.

(https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/Themes/default/images/topic/veryhot_post.gif) means the thread has exceeded its quota size. These are often split into two threads.

FYI!
