My therapist is moving out of town after giving me 8 years of caring kind therapy. I have looked at myself from nearly every angle possible and uncovered layer after layer of pain which I have bravely processed. I decided 8 years ago that I was so frustrated by how immature I was and by how badly my family treated me that I needed to see a therapist. I think I can give myself a huge pat on the back for growing beyond what I thought possible and making it my life mission to be the best person I can be while supporting others in being the best people they can be.

I will get better at graciously accepting kind words in my general direction.

As for what a Quinn is, I've no idea! Although I did find this usable excerpt on Urban Dictionary... .

I am worth it. So I've just bought Emmental cheese and a tin of pop - two of the many forbidden foods my BPD said would be wasted on us (whilst she sat their eating it herself).

Crazy how hard it is to treat yourself to all the stuff your BPD said was "too expensive to waist on children", even though I now realise it was more about eroding our self esteem. I was 16 when I bought my first new piece of clothing (hand me downs up until then). She got me to wear my Dad's hand me down underwear. She boil washed them so the elastic went, making them available as very uncomfortable hand me downs. It  coincided with the first time I notice the opposite sex... .You've got to laugh (even though it wasn't a joke)... .

Self-care to me, means putting the focus back onto myself. I look inside myself to get clear on what is going on for me, and what my experience is. From there I ask myself what my wants, needs and desires are. When I am clear what my wants, needs and desires are, I then figure out how to go about meeting them for myself.

Whilst walking through the 'dark night of the soul', I set up an empowerment project to inspire myself and my family into recovery. Its called The Gifts Of Thriving, and is a youth led, inter-generational self empowerment movement, and a self-study, self-exploration and self empowerment,  expressive arts book club.

It is based around 2 books - The Gifts Of Imperfection by Brene Brown and Complex PTSD: From Surviving To Thriving by Pete Walker. (Neither of which I have read completely myself)   

So far its just been a private family project, but it feels like the time might be right for opening it up to anyone else who also resonates.

Posting about Pete Walker on bpdfamily is an excellent idea, and at the same time I would love the group to have its own culture, and it would need its own space for that to happen.

When I feel the occasional sadness and anger towards how cruel my mother and siblings with BPD and NPD can be towards me and others, I take the high road: I let myself be vulnerable and cry. My NPD bro can break bones, but he never and I mean never, broke my sprite. Although it was a close call on a couple of occasions. Never blink, never show weakness, never get wound up, never back down and never throw the first punch. Since age 14 I’ve not been in a fight despite being brought up in a rough area. The trick is to move to a nice area and not tell your NPD relatives. Oh, and use humour to defuse the tension.
