We just got a (tentative) diagnosis for my 15 year old step daughter... Looking for support from other parents.
She's been a disaster the last year or so- rude, belligerent, poor grades, massively moody, argumentative, slob, cutting, hanging out with wrong crowd... I could go on and on. I was thinking she might be bi-polar, but no one agreed with me. Fast forward to May- we put her in a residential program for 6 weeks for mental health. They diagnosed BiPolar, PTSD, Eating Disorder. We then put her in a day program for 2 weeks- the insurance won't cover any more stay even though they want her to. They say its BPD not BiPolar...
No idea how we will deal with her at home. Both programs recommend that she NOT go back to regular high school.
Basically no mental health services where we live either.

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

Hi Smomruby,
Thank you for writing in.  It appears you are doing all that you can and the best that you can.  8 weeks total of therapy  are never enough , but it's something.  Does she seem like she took in some of the help offered her? Will her therapists provide some guidance to you moving forward about alternative High Schools?

Hello SMR
So much to process when a diagnosis of BPD is made. Do you feel that it fits? You are definitely in the right place to get help and support from other parents in similar situations. What is your biggest concern at this point?
