I am considering reading this and I am wondering if anyone has found it to be helpful or --hopefully not-- harmful.  Thanks.

Hi ,
I have read the book and it helped me .  Specifically , the book spells out we have to help ourselves first when dealing with adult bpd persons.  This is counterintuitive to everything I believed because I thought I had to save my adult son ( he also has other issues including substance abuse along with the bpd).   I cannot save him, but I had to turn that energy towards myself especially when he became violent living with me.
Please write to us as often as you are able.
You are not alone.

It is definitely not harmful.  It is definitely helpful for understanding the basics of the BPD and/or NPD personality.

It has several assessments [3rd edition, 2nd edition is different] on helping you determine what you are dealing with.  It gives you one set of tools that are helpful in dealing and coping.

If you only read two books on BPD, this is one of them, the other is "Stop Caretaking the Borderline Or Narcissist: How to End the Drama and Get on with Life" by Margalis Fjelstad.

Thank you both. I will also check out the other suggestion.
