Title: SELF ASSESSMENT | Personality traits - how do you score?
Post by: Skip on September 16, 2010, 01:55:17 PM
(https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/images/mb/take-the-test.png) (http://www.similarminds.com/personality_disorder.html)
The test contains 60 questions. It is free.
Please enter your score in the survey at the top of this thread!

The current prevalence estimate is that about 20 percent of the U.S. population are affected by mental disorders during a given year. This estimate comes from two epidemiologic surveys: the Epidemiologic Catchment Area (ECA) study of the early 1980s and the National Comorbidity Survey (NCS) of the early 1990s. Those surveys defined mental illness according to the prevailing editions of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

The surveys estimate that during a 1-year period, 22 to 23 percent of the U.S. adult population—or 44 million people—have diagnosable mental disorders, according to reliable, established criteria. In general, 19 percent of the adult U.S. population have a mental disorder alone (in 1 year); 3 percent have both mental and addictive disorders; and 6 percent have addictive disorders alone. Consequently, about 28 to 30 percent of the population have either a mental or addictive disorder (Regier et al., 1993b; Kessler et al., 1994

Self-diagnosis is never a good idea - we often need the experience and the independence of a professional to profile our personality.  That said, below is a 30 question survey based on the DSM-IV that I thought might be interesting to explore to see which "cluster" we have leanings toward - as individuals and as a community overall.

Be honest with yourself  :)  And let’s talk about it

This isn't the first time I took this and I always rank highest on the Narcissistic scale. 58%

My therapuetic diagnosis is PTSD... .and my therapist's unofficial (layman) diagnosis is that I'm just high maintenance.   :)

So how does one read the results?  When should one be worried that they're disordered?

Not sure the point is ever to worry  :)   At the very least this helps us to be mindful and understand others reactions to us, and the stresses we feel.  At the most, we may want to use it as a signal to explore further.  It's a very basic test - we don't want to put too much into the results.

Here are the average scores of people that took the test.

Yes, I've done this before and also come out highest on the Narcissistic.

My highest was Paranoid, I got an 86 and my next highest was borderline which was a 66. I definitely have the instability in personal relationships and odd thinking styles, but I also have Tourette's and OCD which gives me odd thinking patterns anyway. The self image part is interesting to me though because I'm very all or nothing in terms of myself. I'm either super awesome or average and invisible or just blatantly sucky. I'm not sure how truly honest I was though. I'm really hard on myself anyway. Either way I'm not so sure what to make of it. I'm obviously not DISORDERED simply because I'm very able to have good relationships. Most of my issues are internal. I've learned to swallow them because I know so many of them are irrational.

Some of us are gonna worry no matter what.

Yes, I've done this before and also come out highest on the Narcissistic.

Interesting that we're part of a minority here (as far as being secondary nons) and we both scored highest in that category.

How very intriguing... .

I have a 46 at both Schizoid and Narcissistic... .those disorders are the opposite of eachother...  what does that make me... a new disorder ?

Paranoid and dependent tied at 62%. Then Schizoid at 58%, borderline at 50 and so on.

I think it is pretty darn good considering I have 2 uBPDparents and was kidnapped and held hostage by them for over a decade.

Six years NC now and hopefully these numbers will improve as time goes on and I continue to work at healing.

Yipes!  My 2 strongest indicators are narcissistic and anti social.  Have a nice day.  Is it fair to say I lean towards narcism?

If that is the case, a little worry is in order.  The do something about it kind of worry.

I was hoping for a little more OCD.  My house is pretty clean.

Weired!

I've done this test before, and the 2 or 3 times I did this test over a period of time I came up with Narcissistic traits above all 'bout 55%. Now to my surprice I came high in Eccentric Personality Disorders, all  Paranoid, Schizoid and Schizotypal in the 54% - 64%.  Really got me thinking. Guess it has to do with me living alone now.

I was "hoping" it would be Nacissistic.

Hmmm.  Not sure how I feel about this:

Schizoid 70%

Schizoid Personality Disorder - individual generally detached from social relationships, and shows a narrow range of emotional expression in various social settings.

I think I need to go now and not express myself--in a closet.

I've taken this before, and my results are very different now.

I scored higher in Schizoid (58%) and Dependent (46%) than I ever have... .Before I've scored around 50% on  Narcissist, this time, 30%.

Everything else was below 30%.

There are questions that I know I answered differently in the past due to changes in my life situation.  I'm sure that the changes to these answers did impact the scores that are different.  I know I would have answered "inaccurate" or "very inaccurate" to all of these in the past, now, due to the many hits our family has taken in this economy, I answered these either middle of the road or "somewhat accurate":

"I feel onguard all of the time."  When someone comes to the door, my heart pounds.  I'm sure it is going to be some kind of bad news.  I feel my heart race when I go to get the mail, when there is an unknown phone call, when I check out my bank balance.

"I am dependent on the support and nurturance of others."  Actually, we all need support and nurturance, but I've accepted various kinds of help and support recently that I've never had to before.

"I am a private person".  "I value solitude".  "I prefer to do things alone."  "I could survive as a hermit".  I think I answered all of these more positively than in the past... .  As much as I love the people around me, sometimes I would just like to go sit in a hole for awhile.

"I am often extremely sad."  I would have said "very inaccurate" in the past, now I chose a middle-of-the-road answer.  I am somewhat sad more of the time than I used to be.

"I feel defective".  Economy or not, I shouldn't be in this situation.

I've also taken this before, but don't remember the results from before -- except the paranoid one. My score has actually gone down a bit in this one -- it used to be over 80.  I became extremely paranoid after my experience with crazyx -- and that paranoia has never left me.  It doesn't help that I have encounted situations since crazyx (with other people) that have encouraged that paranoia.

I generally do not trust others, am concerned about their motives, and am afraid that they will harm me.   I wish I could see what my scores would be on this test prior to knowing crazyx and the goofballs I've encountered since then.

Please understand... .  This test does not measure mental illness per se... .just a tendency towards traits that are associated with various personality disorders.  I would think that people scoring quite a bit above average would be more likely to have the associated p.d... .or to have recently had some serious trauma in his/her life.

I did this once before and again now... .w/ similar results in the direction of schizoid.   I can see that in myself, I actually don't like/need that many people and parties or socializing w/ large groups etc., to me is boring and anxiety producing, I don't dig it.  I don't like just hanging a chit chating w/ lots of people, I am a introvert on the myers briggs too... .being around a lot of people drains me, whereas for an extrovert, being around a lot of people energizes them.  It is what it is.

so what this test, I think, suggests to me, is that if I were to deteriorate mentally toward a personality disorder, my PD would likely look schizoid in nature because that's my leaning.  That does seem accurate to me, if I did go down hill mentally or emotionally, I'd probably be doing the hermit/cave dweller thing which is very schizoid.  That's what a PD would  show up as in me.

This is a good point.

If we all went in for a blood test, having "sodium" in our blood is normal. The normal range for blood sodium levels is 135 to 145 milliequivalents per liter (mEq/L).  142 milliequivalents of sodium per liter is normal.  200 milliequivalents is abnormal.

The average values for this test are:

So if 2% of the people that take the test are narcissists, that would suggest that the rest of the people scored around 40 on average.

So as JK pointed out, it's the values significantly above the average that should be more concerning.

And remember, a PD has to do with lifelong tendencies - not acute situational stress.

I scored low in everything, the highest ranking was Schizoid  at 26 percent. You know, had I taken this a year ago the ratings would have been different.

Thanks to this website my outlook has changed |iiii and my optimism has increased.

What a hard year it has been, thanks so much for this venue... this has been a healing experience.

Schizoid 54% (no surprise)

Narcissistic 46% (i'm a little surprised)

Obsessive-Compulsive 46% (well, I put these in order)

Schizotypal 30% (no surprise)

Antisocial 30%

Dependent 30%

Paranoid 22%

Avoidant 22%

Histrionic 18%

Borderline 10% (I'm surprised this isn't higher)

Well I've got eccentric, dramatic and anxious in the top three.

Hey, does that mean I'm well balanced?

I think the bottom two are based on my current feelings, which I guess are now strongly integrated into my belief system - interesting. Have had dealings, plural, with histrionic traits and these types make the schizoid in me want to run for the hills. Borderline traits just confuse me and make me feel sad for all the pain of the human condition.

I didn't think of copying and pasting my scores, but I certainly remember the highest 58% was narcissistic, followed by schizoid. It's a wonder I get invited anywhere.

Funny, that the more I've realized what a doormat I've been and decided to change, the more my test would probably reflect this extreme result. Swung too much the other direction? Oops.

First thing I looked at was if I had BPD, and seeing it almost none, I felt I aced it.

Please tell me to take these results with a pinch of salt! I seem to have inherited the worst traits of all of my relatives. (Although my dad is schizophrenic and I am low on schizotypal so I suppose that is at least something!)

Thank God personality disorders are under-diagnosed in the UK, else it looks like I'd be locked up! lol

I thought I was making good progress with my issues but obviously not that good.

Sorry to be facetious, I am a bit alarmed at my scores!

I don't feel I'm "uncomfortable in close relationships" nor have "narrow range of emotional expression". People just usually find me odd because I don't think or express like them (my perception and their words - data gathered during my 16 years of school and beyhond them) or even care for the same things they do.

I think there is a problem with this test that once you have worked really hard for a lot of time on some problematic trait like At_Bay being doormat or me being paranoid then you become more aware and you may overshoot in a little in reality and even more so in your own perception. You have the spotlight squarely aimed at this area and you watch it very closely - this can't be irrelevant for a self assessment.

I'm not getting it, who's score should I copy and paste?

Something I've taken before. Trait-wise, I think this particular test tends to be pretty close to indicating specific disorders. Interesting for me, is that HPD, Dependent, and Antisocial traits are all lower than the last time I took this (which was January of last year.) Schizoid/Schizotypal traits are a little higher. Apparently I am embracing my inner (and sometimes outer) weirdo.

... .Like the author of the test, I don't really think of Schizoid or Schizotypal personality as being "disordered." There's nothing wrong with being kind of weird, and expressing oneself differently.

I scored:

Paranoid   22%   49%

Schizoid   22%   53%

Schizotypal   18%   53%

Antisocial   14%   47%

Borderline   30%   47%

Histrionic   26%   43%

Narcissistic   38%   41%

Avoidant   18%   39%

Dependent   22%   37%

Obsessive-Compulsive  14%   40%

I'm surprised my highest score is in narcissism. I guess the average of other test takers is 41, but still.  I don't know if I trust the accuracy of the test, but fun to do.

I just had a series of personality/interest/trauma testing done at the request of my old therapist, haven't gotten the results yet.  I'm very curious to see what they have to tell me.

Schizoid came in at 66% followed by Schizotypal at 58%.  Not too terribly surprising given where I am in my life right now.

I think I must be reverting back to the coping mechanisms I had growing up (to escape from the FOO madness I would hide out in my room)

seriously, maybe it was cos i said that i like things done a certain way. I was applying that to my new business where as a management consultant previously and a business analyst i have some very clear ideas about how it should and will be run - for example, we like to be good to our customers - a bit "out there" i know

Paranoid was the highest followed by Borderline... .Now here's what I wonder.  After living with a borderline mother and husband, have my fears (based on what typically does happen in my house so I have good reason to fear it) made me appear Paranoid and Borderline or I am really closer to being like both of them than I think?

Yikes!

nhmomof2, I can see how you might be concerned about yourself - after enduring what you have. Please don't concern yourself with your "results." This is not a basis for diagnosis, not should we allow it to define who we are.

You're here - working very, very hard - to understand what's occured in your life, coping with ongoing situations - and at the same time you're learning to heal from past abuse. You're coping with a lot right now, so I'd offer that your results are probably skewed BECAUSE of these facts.  xoxox

Thanks Calico-

For ex/ I answered absolutely true to "are you suspcious of others' motives" -- I guess the question should be- "are you suspicious of the motives of those who have proven to have an agenda when they do something" and then a separate "how do you feel about strangers?".   I think I answered the questions based on my feelings about H and my mother and not generically... .  I'm fairly sure that if I were really deep in the Paranoid and BPD world with regard to my own issues I'd be a lot happier with my life at times b/c I could just use the same coping tactics my H does and avoid my feelings vs. deal with them!    Thanks for bringing me back to earth!

I don't disagree. I've long found initiating social relationships difficult and have always preferred to write in my spare time (which I am now trying to make my full-time job).

The moodiness and instability are familiar companions, too. They are a bigger problem than my schizoid tendencies. I try not to act out and succeed quite well, but this is something I want to keep working on.

I, too, scored highest in narcissistic... .it has been a year or so since taking the test, so I do not remember my score, but it was pretty low.  I am definitely narcissistic in some ways (e.g., I write long posts and am sometimes self righteous or excessively opinionated).  But I have another theory about this... .It is that often, people willing to deal with a mate with a BPD ex are pretty strong people, who are likely to be successful in other areas of their lives and have somewhat strong  "ego strength."  Which, on a test for disorders, shows up more in the narcissistic camp.

I remember noticing that many of the questions that make you get narcissistic points are ones like, "Are you successful?" or ":)o people value your opinion?" and things like that.  As an attorney in a small town who is well respected, I have empirical evidence that people value my opinion, as they give me money just to tell them what to do.  I do not think this makes me a better person or a more valuable person.  It is just true that people value my opinion.  I also have received a bunch of awards in my field.  I have a very different life, now, and do not know if many would think me successful... .but in general, I have done well at things.  In my regular life, I will not brag about these things, and in the world of my profession, I am an extremely minor player, so it is not that I think I am a big deal... .just that I am successful in some ways and people actually value my opinion (the good lord knows why!).  Again, I see that as just things I was given, not things that make me more valuable as a human being.  I have some confidence in myself based on many kinds of successes, and that confidence is part of what makes me be willing to hang in there dealing with my DH's BPDex.  No amount of belittling she does to me has much impact on my self esteem.  I am being put through the ringer, no doubt; I do things that make me question myself on a regular basis, for sure.  But at my core, I know that I am doing my best and that I am okay and that is what makes it possible to stay in this situation.

There are lots of things I am not good at.  If the test asked things like, ":)o people sometimes find you to be self-absorbed?" or ":)o people think you talk to much?" or "Are you somewhat chubby?" I would probably say yest to those things.  The test focuses on the narcissist's high opinion of themselves, not on their ability to ignore any unflattering realities about themselves or their inability to recognize the impact of their self-ignorance on others.

Because of this, I think that the test might have a slight tendency to conflate more "successful" people, and confident people, with narcissistic people, and while I think there is a natural overlap, these are distinct characteristics.  I have a theory that many non-nons, and especially those here, who focus on compassion or they would not stay, are pretty strong people.  For me, I have never chosen an abusive relationship.  My mate did, and he has more classic "self esteem" issues.  But he also has a lot of strength.  I did not choose his ex, but I am able or overconfident enough to endure or to believe I can endure without crumbling.

What do you guys think?

I scored high in paranoid/schizoid and I am okay with that.  I don't consider it a disorder, I consider it survival instinct.

You see, in my BPD mom's extended whack family, I had a sharp sickle held to my throat when I was 12 by her 12 year old cousin.  I showed no fear and talked through it and walked away.

Between the ages of 21 to 25, I was face to face with 3 different serial killers, BEFORE they were caught and walk away.  I knew who and what they were.  I was deeply rattled, but I kept my wits and a poker face.  I needed to move from that area the evil was so thick.  Two weeks after moving, my friend who moved into my room in that house was bludgeoned in her bed by an ex-convict who wanted to go back to prison.

I know when I am in the presence of evil.  After a 17 year marriage to BPD, I recognize the lesser of the evils, too.  Desktop psychology denies the existence of evil.

Paranoid, a bit schizoid, different information processing system than most people?  You bet!

Alive, healthy and happy?  All that and more!

Schizoid. 82%. Not surprised at all. I am very aloof, difficult to get to know (not because of fear of others motives, just not that interested), very happy by myself. I think what is probably more accurate is that I am on the ADHD/Autism spectrum somewhere. It's why I am a psychologist--I am interested in why people act like they do, as research subjects--not because I want to know them or "help" them.

I used to think this made me "bad" or something. However, I am OK with me now. I have a small group people I am close to, and those relationships are enough--they sustain me, and I actually do pretty good therapy, because of my objectivity.

I don't know what to think of this, but the highest I got was Narcisstic at 40%, I don't understand that at all, because I don't display any of that except for some of those questions were confusing to me, like "I am desireable" well I put it right in the middle because I wasn't sure how to answer that. I don't think I'm not desireable, but I don't think I'm VERY desireable.  I guess that makes me narcisstic though since I didn't say I wasn't... .it's a ball of confusion.

The other two were in the low thirties, and that was Schizoid and Paranoid, which I guess somewhat makes since. I don't trust everyone anymore, ever since I got out of my bp relationship.

Everything else was pretty low.

I just took this again... .last time, I scored highest as narcissistic, under 55% tho.  This time, I scored highest on Schizoid (50%), second highest as Narcissistic (48%).  Also scored on antisocial (42%) and Schizotypal (42%).  Lowest on borderline, interestingly (18%).

The notes on the site Skip refers us to for taking the test is interesting.  The average person scores highest on schizoid, and the author critiques this type as conflating people with disorders and people who are unusual or especially skilled or talented.

I find this sort of think uncomfortable.  All while growing up, I scored the highest on academic tests at my school.  This was always very embarrassing to me.  Entering law school, I had a 99th percentile LSAT.  I am also a visual artist who has had an art career.  I built my own home with my own hands. I live in a small town and my ideas and input are valued here.  I have testified before congress on a number of occasions.  To answer that I am not especially smart, or that people do not value my opinion, would be dishonest.

At the same time, I have now been to a good law school and practiced law for ten years.  Though I had a good score on the LSAT, I was not a fantastic law student.  I did well in some areas, average in others.  There were scores of students who were smarter or more hardworking than me, or both.   I did not feel like a smart person there, except insofar as I felt at home with my peers.  Many of my peers are doing amazing things.  I am living in a po-dunk rural town doing little of great interest to the powers that be.

I supported myself for three years as an artist.  My work was represented by a decent gallery.  This was quite an accomplishment, especially in the context of the small town I inhabit that is full of artists, few achieving much success.  But again, having entered the world of galleries and art, I am on the very bottom rung of talent and success for artists making their living on art, and I only made a living as my standards were exceedingly low.

I say all of this to make a couple of points.  First, how we see ourselves, and thus how we answer questions of self-image, has so much to do with context and on how those around us see us.  Many people live in urban areas where each person stands out less. In my rural community, far more people could accurately state that their opinion is valued, not because they are the most special person, but because EVERYONE's opinion is valued.  And I got to be the best in my school growing up, whereas in another school district, I might have been more average.

Second, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  We also live in a culture that insists in false modesty.  I doubt that few people would be willing to state that they are extremely desirable... .because they are supposed to say they are not.  I am chubby, 41, have never been the best looking or the worst.  But my husband really finds me attractive just the way I am, and shows me this and tells me this in a thousand ways.  So am I extremely desirable?  You would say no, if you saw me on the street.  But my husband would say YES!  The point being, having good self esteem allows us to take note of the ways we are valued, not just the ways we are critical of ourselves.  And many of the questions here ask us to assess ourselves in ways that it is hard to do in our culture.

I do not think that this test is useful for assessing what, if anything, is wrong with us if we do not have existing issues.  In general, popular psychology has the problem of inviting introspection from the perspective that there is something wrong with us.  It is important to keep in mind that these tests were derived in the context of abnormal psychology, where it has already been determined that there IS something wrong, and the test is trying to find out WHAT is wrong.  Psychological labels are not that useful if everything is going okay.  I still find it useful to see a therapist and work on personal growth, but to the degree that I have narcissistic tendencies, this label is less useful than the more obvious awareness that when I am mad, my husband says sometimes I do not provide space for him to talk.  This is true.  This does not need to mean I am bad or diagnosable, but that I am not meeting my desire to hear my husband and have him felt heard by me.  I work on that.  Real issue with real people are not just about noting and labeling our negative qualities, but more about learning how to be able to be responsive to the needs of ourselves and those around us without a whole lot of judgment.

I think abnormal psych diagnostic tools are useful when there are chronic problems.  My BPD ex wife in law has these:  She drinks to excess most night.  She has violent fights with everyone she has lived with or dated to my knowledge, with the exception of her two kids.  She has never had a job for more than a few months.  She is chronically miserable, occasionally suicidal.  None of this is her fault... .it is everyone else's fault.  She states that she has been raped by most men she has dated.  Her cars die every 8 months, no matter how nice or new.  She feels her life has been ruined.

While she feels these problems are all other people's fault, even she would say she has problems.  She is upset to the point of doing violence to herself or others at least several times a year.  I have never done this... .ok, I punched a girl when I was 8.  Point is, she needs some help.  What kind of help, should she choose to pursue it, is the job of diagnostic tests.  Giving her drugs to fix depression when she needs DBT is the kind of error that is made without accurate diagnosis.

I get that if someone has been married to a BPD person for 10 years, one's sense of self may be a bit skewed.  But I want to note that while the BPD person may be saying you are bad, it is a good idea to look at the way your life is going.  If you are honest enough to take this test, you are probably honest enough to notice if stuff is going wrong, and probably honest enough to seek help from a therapist.  I do, when I am having a hard time, though I have no diagnosis.  A therapist is a far more helpful resource than a test, because he or she can help us to see where we are not full honest or able to see ourselves.  While I think it is important to address major mental health issues WE have that may be masked due to the presence of a mentally ill or disordered person in our lives, I also feel concerned about the focus of folks who read these kinds of boards on assessing mental heath issues when that is really not the issue.

Not sure how I can be tied for the highest, but I have to say I probably identify myself more as Schizoid than Narcissistic, although I admit I do have tendencies in that category as well.  I do feel that I am awesome, and that I deserve the good things that come to me.  I feel like I am a lucky person, and that it's sort of a karma thing.  I disagree with the Narcissism though, since I am NOT demanding in relationships - I swing more toward preferring to have my space and independence.  I do show a limited range of emotion - most of the time happy.  I'm an upbeat, positive optimist.  I don't show much anger, fear, worry, suspicion, paranoia, etc.  I just feel those things less, even when things go horribly wrong.  I somehow usually look on the bright side, even if not at first.

Highest score on antisocial with 54% and Schizoid coming in second with 50%. I did some 2-hour questionaire with a psychologist once aswell - I'm not sure what test it was but I did score twice in antisocial and 5 times in depressive at that time. That's 3 years ago though and I was on sickleave for depression then. I don't take it too seriously. I am an open book, but I very rarely let anyone into the core of me to the point that I let myself genuinly feel for them. When I do it's for life though. I can empathise and understand but I don't often sympathise.

Well, never felt uncomfortable in close relations. But I certainly is a bit peculiar and unconventional in some areas.

Schizoid - 70%    Nothing else scored above 50. Lowest was Dependent - 10%

I noticed a lot of people scoring highest in the Schizoid category. Maybe this is due to our isolation we experience with our pwBPD and our adaptation to it?

My guess is we are drawn to "vibrant", highly emotional people who we think can fill in the missing parts of our personalities ... .

I scored high here too.  A bit of the chicken and egg.  I know that I tend to want to be alone when dealing with junk at home.  However, my first W (wish I still had her) was Auspicious described.

My highest was the obsessive-compulsive with 62%  I knew I had some of these traits too, I just didn't know it was so high, wow.  I always joke to my friends that I'm a germ-o- phobe, lol, I always have purell on hand.  I wash my hands 50 times a day, but this could be also because I have an autoimmune disease and am afraid of getting sick?

I do have a question about my 2nd highest score which is anti-social with 50%.  I noticed it's in the same category as borderline, narcissists, and histrionic.  I'm wondering if this is why I was attracted to my ex BPD in the first place?  Just curious.  Tia!

It's probably from killing all those germs.  :)o you "soap" slowly to make them suffer?   lol

On a more serious note, personal inventory is about us.  This test is a crude measurement of how we process and serves as a starting point to begin our self examination. Sure it is possible that we acquired some traits by sitting on a toilet seat at the airport - that's Freudian -  :) - but that is that important here?

What is important is whether some of these traits are taking us in a direction that is not fulfilling for us and how we can become mindful of them.

Well... .if I have to have a PD, I guess Cluster A is the way to go ?

(let's hope I really don't)

I totally own up to the paranoid thing. I really do have a major problem with that. I've gotten better, but even today I decided a coworker thought I was an unqualified moron, and truthfully that is just based on a "feeling."

Schizotypal Personality Disorder - individual is uncomfortable in close relationships, has thought or perceptual distortions, and peculiarities of behavior.

I'm definitely uncomfortable in close relationships. I keep people at arm's length. I have many acquaintances, a bunch of close friends that I've known for a long time... .BUT... .I don't live near my close friends and I'm reluctant to let people in. I stopped dating as well. I recently moved to a new city and am meeting new people, but I hesitant to develop close friendships. I wish I didn't feel this way.

I don't know about the thought or perceptual distortions, or the peculiar behavior - I think I act normally ? Who knows for sure? I don't dress like an eccentric, in fact I wish I had the fashion sense to do so but I don't... .

I scored a 78% on the borderline scale... that's kind of scarily high.  Next highest is paranoid personality disorder.  I think the high score for borderline because being raised by someone who more than likely has it can REALLY mess up your outlook on a LOT of things.  Not to mention mom's quite paranoid too.

Ok so I found this really funny because I took this a long time ago and I scored low on everything.  I retook it, after much therapy and tested much higher on them.  Even got 78% on OCDpd.  And 60% on BPD.  I find it pretty funny because I think it has to do with more willingness to admit "issues" and also seeing more grey area and keeping my answers in the middle range.

Not worried though :) Just find it pretty amusing.  (as a p.s. I am likely closer to avoidant PD but got a low score on that lol)

Everything else below average. I can remember taking this test before and getting much different results. I didn't rate as paranoid before I figured out that everyone actually is totally out to get me! As I had surrounded myself with freaks who felt like home, and now that I've purged most of them I'm dead scared of picking up a new batch. The truth is that the majority of people do not trigger any sort of warning for me, but I focus a lot harder on the ones who do. I was thinking of people who set off my alarms when I took the test, not normal people.

I think the anti-social result is new too. I'm actually not sure where that came from. Schizoid has remained steady, and avoidant has completely dropped off the map.

Anti-social just means you're insensitive to other people. It fits pretty well with narcissism, I think. (Yeah, this explanation IS in the directions. Haha! You guys. )

It says I lean towards paranoid with borderline being 2nd on the list, and narcissistic third, lol.  I've been dx'd w/ ptsd, and told that I do not have BPD by therapists.  A lot of fleas, but that’s learned behavior, not emotionally/internally driven.  Also since my parents just visited I'm guessing that might have skewed the results since I'm a bit on edge and have been fighting off  my-issues's like crazy.

Excerpt
Borderline Personality Disorder - individual shows a generalized pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, and observable emotions, and significant impulsiveness.

Amusingly the friends I make I keep, I don't tend to be all over the board emotionally unless my ptsd is flaring up and then it's more of a lack of focus than anything else, and the only times I'm impulsive (which I can be, but usually only after I've made up my mind to allow myself to do something ie: I've decided to buy a car, I've gone to 3 dealers and I decided *this one* is the one I want).

Excerpt
Paranoid Personality Disorder - individual generally tends to interpret the actions of others as threatening.

I'm not sure that I'd say that I interpret the actions of others as threatening, but until I know someone I'm not going to assume that friendship/altruism is driving their motives.  Plus as I said, my parents just came for a visit and listening to mom's “Everyone is out to get you!” speeches it’s kind of hard not to feel a little extra leary, lol.

SC

LOL, apparently my greatest flaw is that I misread the directions.  I reread the directions on the test & realized that the scale didn't work the way I assumed it did >.< oops.

Retaking it using the correct scale I ended up with

53% Narcassistic,

23% borderline, and

18% paranoid,

:-P though I'd be interested in what a test actually geared towards narcassistic traits spat out for an answer since I think that this one mixes narcasism and perceived self-worth.

I have been shifting in a downward spiral slowly the past 3 months that DD25 has been back in our home -making good choices for herself (at least relative to choices most of the rest of her life) and reconnecting to gd6 in some ways. Shifting power alignment - dh shifting away from me toward DD and her bfG attitudes and ideas, esp with the dogs and with gd6 routines and behaviors.

Then I was in hospital 5 days on IV antibiotics for an infection - doing fine from that. But dynamics in household have passed out of my 'control'. And i believe i have been struggling to manage myself and my life here with control of many many details in the household. And now many of those seem to be in question. I feel very lost and alone and confused - depressed and sad.

Gd6 is clinging to me - the rules for her have changed too. I have been home about 10 days now, got reassurance that  I am "doing the right things with gd" at  sessions last week with pdoc and T - have not seen them since March 2011. Yet do not trust or believe this once back in the family situation.

Am I so distracted that I do not really know what is going on around me?

So think it is time for me to work on this board a bit - along with working with my T if I can get him to see how distressed I really am. His point to me was that I need to find the balance with my boundaries to protect the family I have with gd6 and dh. Yet DD and bfG are here now and dh seems to want them to stay - he is gaining personal power with them here somehow too.

YIKES - this is all so crazy making for me. Maybe I will copy this into a new thread and try to listen to feedback from all you other senior members here. I am feeling fragile, and remember this is about my DD, not my lover or partner that I 'chose'. I have tried the NC and VLC. It is better trying to build a healtier relationship with her, and in fact she may be getting healthier in many ways. But I am struggling to accept this - do I just miss the drama

To be continued... .

Hmmmm - my paranoid number was only 18% compared to 49% for the average.  That makes me wonder what everyone else knows that I do not know?  Maybe the test is making me more paranoid. . .

My numbers generally came out low except for Avoidant which was 42% and Narcissistic also at 42% but my numbers were close to those for the average.  I am not surprised by Avoidant - I definitely plan to stay away from relationships for the time being and my answers reflected that although I think that may be more situational than my true personality.  The Narcissistic score surprises me but if my number is the same as "average" than perhaps I am normally narcissistic?  If the narcissistic number was low - would that mean low self-esteem?

What can we interpret from this test if many of our numbers are very low?  Looking back over the questions and the "average" results - maybe I am too trusting and not paranoid enough?

My Scores (Average Web Scores)

Paranoid |||||| 22% (49% )

Schizoid |||||||||| 38% (53% )

Schizotypal |||||||||| 34% (53%)

Antisocial |||||| 22% (47%)

Borderline |||||||||||| 46% (47%)

Histrionic |||||| 22% (43%)

Narcissistic |||||| 30% (41%)

Avoidant |||| 14% (39%)

Dependent |||||| 26% (37%)

Obsessive-Compulsive |||||||||||| 42% (40%)

I'm not surprised by the last one, I know I have tendencies in the direction of OCD.

I'm a little surprised by the Borderline one being as high as it is. That will merit some serious self-examination.

But they're all lower than the average web scores, and they're all lower than the 55% in the poll, so I'm going to take it as a good sign that I'm doing better than I thought. :)

I only scored above 55 on obsessive compulsive (got a 58).  I do have issues with obsessive thinking and I also have some weird "quirks" - i always have to have things set at even numbers, like the volume on our TV or on the radio, I count whenever I have water running, I spend probably a total of 2 hours a week pulling leg hairs out with tweezers, and when I was in jr high and high school I used to spend probably an hour a day using nail clippers to cut off split ends.  These things never bothered me, and I didn't think of them as issues, and I wouldn't say they really interfered with my daily functioning - but now I definitely think I should mention them to my therapist at our next appointment!  I am hoping that as I work through my anxiety and issues from BPDmom, maybe these compulsions will also subside - I am guessing they were maladaptive stress coping techniques!

I do prefer to be alone and do my own thing. It's difficult to put the energy into maintaining friendships. I do try, but it's draining.

I also score high on introversion scores as well (80 percentile)

I scored highest on Schizoid. But I scored above 55 on both paranoid and... .very eerily... .Borderline.

65 Schizoid, 58 Paranoid, 58 Borderline.

Schizoid though... .I suck at expressing feelings and I like having my time alone.

Borderline though... .that one sorta frightens me a bit.

When I first took this quiz - I don't know maybe a year ago - I definitely scored high as a Narcissist.  Since then I have become so much more humble.  However, the histrionic aspects still ring true for me today.  I see that my way of connecting with people is through my crisis.  I don't know how to have positive conversation.  I only talk about the negative.  I think I don't believe the good aspects of my life are actually that good - so good they are worth sharing.  But certainly there is more to good conversation than the good or bad "news" of my life!  I need to learn how to talk to people.  For real.  I wish I could just make simple conversation about beer, movies, comedy, current events.  Whatever.  I grew up completely out of touch with pop culture - and am not at all in touch today.  I feel that limits me a LOT.   :'(  It makes me sad.

Been thinking recently I need to face up to some narcissistic traits and I was just looking back at some old texts between me and exBPD- I was shocked how needy I appear. There was a massive dependency going on which makes my stomach squirm.

Just did this out of interest and do quite agree with the results.

Top 3:

Schizotypal    62%

Avoidant    54%

Obsessive-Compulsive    46%

Excerpt
Individual is uncomfortable in close relationships

Check.

Excerpt
Individual is socially inhibited, feels inadequate, and is oversensitive to criticism. Core issue is an inability to resolve their codependent need for connection with their codependent fear of rejection and/or discomfort/anxiety around others.

Check. Although mainly in r/s to uBPDh. Working on this one a lot lately.

Excerpt
Core issue is mental and behavioral rigidity/inflexibility.

Have to unfortunately agree with this. I am not the greatest with compromise. I like things my way. It hurts my r/s with my H sometimes.

I'm not very far on my journey to recovery, so it will be interesting to see, how these traits will, or if they will, change when I keep working on my emotional health and maturity, self-esteem and codependency issues.

Struggling & BPDmagnet1 - Before you start jumping to conclusions please know that taking these kinds of tests when you are traumatized can skew results.  Some of the results maybe correct and a stable account of your personality while others maybe situational.  The test can be a platform to start from.

If you are worried it is something you can bring up with a therapist.  I know it can be hard to look at some of our not so nice qualities.  We all have them and acknowledging a problem is a great way to fix it.

Yes, I told myself it's just a rough test done over the internet, not a diagnosis.  It still freaked me out a little bit.

I mentioned the results to my therapist.

She said "You are NOT borderline.  You are as solid as a rock.  You have your emotions, but you are a rock."

Ha ha.  Maybe that's sort of a compliment.  I took it that way.

My highest were 1. Obsessive/compulsive 54% and 2. Schizoid 50%.  Everything else below 35% and extremely low in dependency and dramatic disorders.

So basically, I lean towards control by keeping an emotional distance from others.  When I see this result, I agree with it: I like to keep my life simple on the outside.  I think this comes with age and maturity, as things have not always been this way.    There is not enough time in my day, as a mother, to give to many people other than my family.

Also, I like being a bit obsessive about certain things, because there are certain things that I like to do very well.  It is important for me to be good at some things.

I remember doing this test over a year ago which was a very emotional time for me personally.

Will be very interesting to compare them now i am much more stable.

My current results seem quite low in most areas except OCD. Im happy with that but have the presence of mind to acknowledge i need to still work on myself.

(http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/qasfj.jpg) (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/qasfj)

^^^ Click image to view results^^^

If i was to express the OCD, id possibly put it down to the 'active' part of NC.

Trying to achieve a positive from a negative action, kind of goes against the grain of who i am.

That said, im happy to have changed my mindset, my thoughts and it proves to me i can build my character beyond what it is.

Realistic thinking though tells me that someone could do that test 3 times in a week and get 3 different results dependant on how they are feeling at that particular moment in time.

It may be an idea to gauge how you are feeling when doing the test and then compare them with earlier/later results.

The test results above for me... .  current status... .

Feeling quite content.

Generally happy & smiley.

A little bunged up.

Tough and tiring day at work but not stressful.

So on the whole, not firing on all cylinders with a little bit of flu but stress free and happy getting on with daily life as it happens.

Avoidant, sounds about right.

I think of myself as having pretty high narcissism, but I've taken this test several times and always got 17-22 on N.  Maybe I'm off base or just not answering the questions right

Well, it looks like I am pretty paranoid, narcissistic, very schizotypal, and a tad bit antisocial.

I have severe PTSD, and a bit of humanity has been lost. I used to have many borderline traits, but those are gone, because I have practiced vipassana and mindfulness meditation for 14 years. Celiac disease greatly exasterbated the moodswings.  This is the only thing---and it is similar to DBT, that helped.

I know I am damaged, nervous system wise. But oddly, I do have a lot of empathy and have a lot of wonderful relationships, so who cares?

I can be counted on, and have no doubts at this point.

OCD doesn't surprise me in any way, shape, or form and neither does schizotypal to a degree... .  or even antisocial.  The way I answered the 'your group/community' questions probably factored into that, too.  EDIT:  I did the poll and added in OCD and Schizotypal even though it was 54%.  Close enough to 55% IMO.

This is kinda weird. I remember taking this test like 1-2 years ago. And I was heading towards histronic and borderline which freaked me out. Now I'm totally not either one. I'm more antisocial and OCD... .  How can it change like that? I guess that makes me really messed up... .  LOL

Dependent narcissist then, here I am. I wasn't sure where to start on the PI board but I just couldn't resist this test! It's maybe not the best starting point but it got me in.

Been thinking recently I need to face up to some narcissistic traits and I was just looking back at some old texts between me and exBPD- I was shocked how needy I appear. There was a massive dependency going on which makes my stomach squirm.

That's what I wrote in July 2012, very soon after I first arrived here. I've added the red for my new score. I purposefully did the test again now without thinking or without referring back to when I did it or what the results were.

According to this test, I have become more avoidant and more borderline and more anti- social. I have become significantly less narcissistic. I guess in reality I am pretty scared of where I am emerging, feel as if everything is pretty raw and a less controlled/ controlling me is much more vulnerable. So I suppose it makes some sense. Where will I be in another year?

I scored very low on everything except for paranoid and Avoidant. Very high on Avoidant, it's making me think I have this disorder. And here I thought I was just Codependent. I Avoid anything that hurts, seems like I found the perfect relationship to stay in my Avoidant mind. Avoiding intimacy with anyone because it's not really possible to be completely intimate with someone with BPD and that's who I fell for.

It's good to look at yourself. These tests can be helpful to get insights. Don't be to bothered about the outcome, because it is just a 'do-it-yourself-test'. No need to conclude you have a disorder. Just look at the outcome, look at yourself and ask yourself the question whether it's true or not.

If so, ask yourself the question if you want to change. If so, how are you going to do that!

About the avoidant PD: individual is socially inhibited, feels inadequate, and is oversensitive to criticism. Core issue is an inability to resolve their codependent need for connection with their codependent fear of rejection and/or discomfort/anxiety around others.

It isn't a strange thing an avoident person hooks up with a BPD and probably stays hooked a long time. Well, because I did and I scored 70% on avoident, it seems logical to me

Thanks, I know it's just a internet test. I started to read about the disorder and I really do think I have it. Not extreme but I've not been happy my whole life and it's because of this. I just never knew what it was called. I didn't think being extremely shy was a disorder. I thought I was just shy. It's making me look at myself clearer and why I do the things I do or don't do more like. I've been Avoidant my whole life. I always felt different than other people, so much anxiety attached to everything for me, especially social situations. What has always been fun for other people, has always been frightening to me. I want so badly to have relationships with people but I have no idea how to make them. My husband is very outgoing and liked me from the get go and made it clear. I can see why I would be extremely attracted to him now.

I have completed some of these tests before, and can often see that I may well have tendencies that appear Borderline, (fear of abandonment for sure). In the past, these tendencies may well have been more noticeable, but I kind of feel like I am changing as a person, hopefully for the better. It is a lifelong process of evolving ourselves to our very best, and according to some of the behaviourists, the thing we are all searching for, is self-enlightenment on our journey or ultimately after we have had it, (on our death beds).

On the triangle, the first level is survival, that being our shelter, and food etc. Basic needs for survival, somewhere to live that is relatively safe, and food/nourishment.

It has been so long since I studied Psychology, that I ironically have forgotten the middle of that triangle, and the name of the behavioural therapist that created it, all I know is that at the base level, we are in need of the basics first, and the end, (the very tip of the triangle) is self-enlightenment, after we have achieved all the other things in our lives, or at the same time, as each person is different in their ability to process/navigate through life.

I only hope I can get through all this alive... .

High paranoid comes from my old self too, I seriously don't know how I now react in different situations because I haven't been in them. Schizotypal is very much ME, and I'm not a bit conserned about it.

There were some questions I did not understand mainly due the language used.

high: avoidant, 70%

low: schizoid, 14%

both of these seem right.

Dependent    22% 44%

Obsessive-Compulsive    26%    45%

Ten years ago, maybe less, I thought I had a PD. I had convinced myself I was mostly Schizoid, with Avoidant traits. Certainly when I was a child I had some type of Avoidant attachment style. I guess over the years things got better. Took until I was about 40. Had two kids, partnered with a likely BPD. It made me stronger than I thought I was. I know what's right (when I don't meet those standards, I don't obsess about it, I try to do better the next time), I really don't care what people think (based upon a secure base of core ethics, upon which I judge the correctness of others' opinions... .that and how they run their lives), and I now believe what my long-time friends tell me: that despite a really messed up childhood, I am surprisingly well adjusted :^) Took me a while to accept that.

Hi Skip,

I didn't answer your poll correctly because I missed the part at the bottom (which I should have checked) about not scoring 55 or higher.

12% Paranoid

32% Schizoid

27% Schizotypal

19% Antisocial

6% Borderline

2% Histrionic

32% Narcissitic

0% Avoidant

9% Dependent

48% Obsessive- Compulsive

My highest score was in the area of obsessive compulsive and it would probably be higher if I didn't channel that energy in constructive ways.

At first, even knowing this is a basic type thing, I looked at some of the scores (which were pretty high for narcissm) and with the way my brain works I started to freak a bit.

A lot of people (well, exPDw and such) call me egotistical and all that jazz.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder - individual has a grandiose view of themselves, a need for admiration, and a lack of empathy that begins by early adulthood and is present in various situations. These individuals are very demanding in their relationships. Core issue is entitlement.

I don't believe I have a grandiose view of myself, but I do think highly of what I know I can do (and be)... . and I typically can pull off most things I try and pull off.  So... . they can bite me on that one.  As far as need for admiration - I like admiration, sure.  But I don't need it.  I just like being acknowledged for doing what I do.

I have TOTAL empathy for others.  But... . it is difficult to move me  to empathy when a person is just being stupid.  I can't think on those levels most times.  Or if I do, it comes off like I'm talking down to someone... . which I don't mean for it to.

As for being demanding in a relationship - well... . a little.  But not the way it sounds.  I mean, there are things which are right and things which are wrong... . it's called boundaries.  I'm very (or try to be) clear as to my boundaries and the demanding part comes out when someone is trying to blast by them.  But I don't see how that is a bad thing.

I dont' think I'm entitled - but I do think... . okay, let me say it this way.  If you agree to do x-y-z if I do a-b-c, and I gladly do a-b-c... . but you don't do x-y-z... . how the heck does that make me have a sense of entitlement?

What?

My new results compared to when I took this in November. I highlighted the significant increases. I wonder what this means? Maybe I should take the test every week to see if this is an anomaly, or if it indicates change. Two data points spaced months apart may not be analyzable. I wonder if it has anything to do with now being separated, and forced Hermitude now that I am only a half-time father  :'(

The great increases in Schizoid and Anti-social may make sense under the new reality.

I embrace my OCD.

It does not 'rule' me... . and I do not let it 'own' me.

BUT I can out work people 1/2 my age because I embrace my OCD and make it work for me!

The rest of my scores were WELL below 55. Only a couple in the low 40's!

I scored 56% Schizoid, 41 % Narcissistic and 68 % Obsessive Compulsive

The rest of the scores were in the 20 % and 30 % range.

Narcissistic traits - 1 % above the norm. Not surprising - I am quite demanding and feel entitled to things, because I'm a really decent guy. Genuine, you know!

Schizoid -  I am mildly depressed - as shown by the Depression test - but starting to feel better.

Obsessive - Compulsion : I am a perfectionist. And definitely too rigid / inflexible.

Now that I know - I'm going to start working on them!

I'll start with - SMILING MORE! Not being so rigid. That's a good place to start |iiii

Hmmm, 47 was my highest score. Antisocial. I am not so sure of that one. Antisocial in terms of introversion and or shyness I 'd buy. However in terms of harming others,  I don't think fits. I can see Schizod and Avoidant, my next two highest scores. Both were mid to low thirities. In general I feel pretty ackward in social settings

Obsessive-Compulsive  61%

"Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder - individual is preoccupied with orderliness, perfectionism, and control at the expense of flexibility, openness, and efficiency. Core issue is mental and behavioral rigidity/inflexibility."

Which is not a *huge* shock to me. I like order. I do and I always have. But at the same time I understand and accept that life is messy. I've learned to roll with it over the years. Not saying that the messy parts don't raise my hackles... .but ah, whaddya gonna do? Could get mad and sulky but why? Life's better when you're laughing, right? So laugh at the mess, then clean it up! lol My son tells me that I have OCD... .I tell him no I have CDO... .which is like OCD but the letters are in the correct order.

I think the worst thing about it all is I'm really hard on myself. Really hard. Especially when I know I could have done better. or should have known I could have done better. Also, it makes making decisions really hard. Sometimes damn near impossible. All the what if's really get to me. I'm trying to combat this type of thinking, but sometimes just don't know how... .intellectually, yes, I can think my way thru is but emotionally that's a whole different story. I don't know how to handle that part of the 'what ifs' it's scary and keeps me sorta frozen.

Panda's top 3 highest scores... .

Schizoid Personality Disorder - individual generally detached from social relationships, and shows a narrow range of emotional expression in various social settings; emotional zombies who stopped feeling due to trauma(s) and/or can't feel due to organic depression

Schizoid... .I will say that I am an introverted person and tend to have a few very close friends vs having a large social circle and I can be uncomfortable in some social settings.  I have also experienced some depression in my past.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder - individual has a grandiose view of themselves, a need for admiration, and a lack of empathy that begins by early adulthood and is present in various situations. These individuals are very demanding in their relationships. Core issue is entitlement.

Narcissistic Personality I would not have expected.  I feel that I am very empathetic and do not believe I am entitled in any way and I very definitely don't have a grandiose view of myself. As for a need for admiration I really think most people would like a little of that (if deserved).

Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder - individual is preoccupied with orderliness, perfectionism, and control at the expense of flexibility, openness, and efficiency. Core issue is mental and behavioral rigidity/inflexibility.

I am definitely Obsessive-Compulsive I will own this one! But not to the extreme. I like orderliness and control (not a perfectionist) but I don't think I'm completely inflexible and think I actually create efficiency.

Well there you have it Panda's scores and self analysis  :) It will be interesting to run this by those closest to me and see what they think.

I understand why I was higher on Narcissistic than anything else - I'm an INFJ and trust myself and my conclusions pretty soundly. =) I will point out that there were a couple of questions that said things like "I need to be better-looking than others" - to which I give a hearty no, not at all, I don't - and then questions like "I like being better-looking than others." Which, yes, if I'm being honest, it is gratifying to be able to notice that, by comparison, I am attractive. It does not make me happy that others are less; but it does make me happy to appreciate what I have.

So, given my bent to see myself as the most important awesome person named Me ever... .hahaha... .I will just continue to make it my mission to help others find out how to embrace how they are the best most important awesome person named Them.

So, these were my results and I can definitely agree with them.  I sort of feel that any type of self-report is suspect because the way I see myself is often not how others see me.  A lot of the times, I wish I had a friend to score the test for me.  There are plenty of times I think I stick to a schedule, for example, when I really, seriously don't and I have NO IDEA that I am a terrible scheduler unless someone has pointed it out to me.  But I do usually feel as though the external world is threatening.  I do have a problem repressing emotion and have often felt like an emotionless zombie.  And I have the tendency to overreact to people and to seek attention.  (It's strange that I have both the Schizoid emotional zombie thing going on while ALSO SEEKING ALL THE ATTENTION.  No wonder being around people is so tiring for me!)  And I do feel so inadequate around everyone else but at the same time, I'm so scared to be alone.  All of these things together feed into my eating disorder.  I have a BPDm  (not sure about the abbreviation- my mom has BPD) and it makes sense that I'd inherit some of her behaviors.  This was an eye-opener!  Thanks for sharing the test!

Hello all,

I've done the test about four times since I found it and my results have been consistent. For me the antisocial score set me thinking because I know for sure that before I met and married my dBPDh I don't think this would have been so high. My reasoning is that I now choose to be far less sensitive to peoples needs after spending so long trying to fix my h, I know I consciously shy away from engaging with people on an emotional level. I feel as though I want to keep all my caring and kindness for myself. I suppose I'm protecting myself from any possibility of emotional burnout again. I am definitely much more selfish than I used to be.

hi, i took this test here in the past and i'm pretty sure i posted the results , but i can't find it.     ?  can anyone help me find that post?

i took it again yesterday.  was the reporting option of "i did not score 55 or higher in any category" a new option or was it always there?

if i recall, back in 2012 and 2013 i did score much higher in some of these, like N, BPD, etc which really had freaked me out.  my hope, at the time, was that it was just fleas from my xBPDgf.   folie

looks like that was true b/c this time i did not score over 55 in any category.  question:  does that mean i'm "normal" now?  IOW, are the test scores based on "optimal" results from healthy people or "average" results of whoever has taken this particular test?

                                 MY SCORE   AVERAGE WEB SCORE

Paranoid                               27%        50%

Schizoid                             48%        40%

Schizotypal                     48%        56%

Antisocial                             35%         46%

Borderline                             27%         45%

Histrionic                             21%         52%

Narcissistic                     47%        40%

Avoidant                             16%          48%

Dependent                     22%        44%

Obsessive-Compulsive     63%        45%

Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder - individual is preoccupied with orderliness, perfectionism, and control at the expense of flexibility, openness, and efficiency. Core issue is mental and behavioral rigidity/inflexibility.

Schizoid Personality Disorder - individual generally detached from social relationships, and shows a narrow range of emotional expression in various social settings; emotional zombies who stopped feeling due to trauma(s) and/or can't feel due to organic depression

Schizotypal Personality Disorder - individual is uncomfortable in close relationships, has thought or perceptual distortions, and peculiarities of behavior; preoccupied with seeing themselves and/or the world as strange/odd

The (3) area's I scored the highest marks, are very true, based upon the above explanations.

The OCD I have 'bent' to make it work for me... .and every day, I am becoming less and less routine/rigid and more flexible. This is something I am making great progress and steps to eliminating the bad side of OCD.

The (2) Schizoid and Schixotypal descriptions are high, right now, because of the PTSD... .BUT... .those numbers will come down with time and healing.

I am VERY pleased with my numbers (even thought I know it's just an internet thing).

I am healing!

I decided to take the plunge and try the test.

My highest score was 69% on Avoidant Personality Disorder (average is 48%), followed by 57% on Dependent Personality Disorder (average is 44%). I scored below average on BPD. I was surprised by this because I really relate to the push-pull dynamics in BPD. However, looking at the explanations of my two highest scores, these do fit nicely with my tendency to push people away when relationships get close.

Avoidant Personality Disorder - individual is socially inhibited, feels inadequate, and is oversensitive to criticism. Core issue is an inability to resolve their codependent need for connection with their codependent fear of rejection and/or discomfort/anxiety around others.

Dependent Personality Disorder - individual shows an extreme need to be taken care of that leads to fears of separation, and passive and clinging behavior. Core issue is the need to be parented by others (i.e. avoid growing up / becoming self-sufficient).

My results need to be read in conjunction with my existing diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome.

hey lifewriter,

thanks for asking. to answer your question, honestly no, not really. i think my results mainly reflect choosing the in the middle option on the majority of questions (especially given my range for all of them is 43-46). they are relatively accurate, but i would personally skew them a bit; lower in some areas (i rate myself low on antisocial and histrionic, and paranoid in particular) and higher or about the same in some areas like avoidant, dependent, and obsessive compulsive. i dont believe i meet the criteria for any of these disorders though there are aspects i can identify with; they dont much relate to my struggles.

I tried to play it straight and answer honestly, and how much can you really self-diagnose with 60 questions, but I agree with the higher scores in schizotypal, antisocial and narcissistic I guess, the way I put it I march to my own drummer, tend to be insensitive to others at times and definitely see things from angles not a lot of others do.  It's good to get the feedback as a tool to focus on any changes we may want to make, the juice here for me is to focus on other's needs more.

#1: Schizotypal Personality Disorder - individual is uncomfortable in close relationships, has thought or perceptual distortions, and peculiarities of behavior; preoccupied with seeing themselves and/or the world as strange/odd.

Close second: Antisocial Personality Disorder - individual shows a pervasive disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others; Preoccupied with disdain/contempt for others and often a need for control/power over others.

Interesting.  It appears as if the average scores have changed considerably, Since September of 2010.  I did the test rather quickly the first time I took it.  Wow, ended up with all categories in the 40's and 50's.  I took it again, with some extra thought, and ended up with the results below.

Paranoid    ||||||||||   38%   50%
Schizoid    ||||||||||   40%   40%
Schizotypal ||||||||||   33%   56%

Avoidant   ||||||||||   34%   48%
Dependent||||||||||   34%   44%
Obsessive-Compulsive||||||||||   40%   45%
Note:  Gray numbers to the right, indicate the average score of participants

I'm wondering if someone in California designed the test, .  The particular questions below from the test, appear to have been used to denote characteristics such as narcissism, if you answer the questions in a particular way.    Okay, I won't get political, but I could see there was a bit of skewing in some instances.  I'd better step away before I really start JADEing.
  • I am politically conservative
  • Human activity is causing climate change.
:thought: Climate change?  Wow, California just made a law to regulate cow farts
  • A country should not care as much about foreigners as it's citizens.
  • Minorities who pose some kind of social threat should be monitored
  • Some cultures simply don't mix well
  • Immigration should be tightly controlled.
  • People shouldn't live in a country they don't want to entirely integrate into.
