Learning how to support my friend who's been diagnosed with BPD

Hi.
Recently my best friend has been diagnosed with BPD. They kept it a secret for a while, but it has finally surfaced. Looking back at our times at university it is starting to add up.
I'm worried about them and concerned about me and my partner who live with them. I love my friend a lot, I am looking for guidance from others and a supportive community to express fears and concerns.
The other issue is substance (in this case alcohol) abuse. They are abusing it and putting themselves in bad situations. This has also been a pattern in the past. They say it is better than the alternative (being in their own head) and that worries me.
Thank you for talking the time to read this.

Hi Hiro and welcome.
I am glad you found us and posted.
Can you tell us what your concerns are with your friend? Are there any particular behaviors that are causing issues or are you looking for ways to help support them?
I hope to hear more from you soon.
