Beware of Junk Psychology... Just because it's on the Internet doesn't mean it's true. Not all blogs and online "life coaches" are reliable, accurate, or healthy for you. Remember, there is no oversight, no competency testing, no registration, and no accountability for many sites - it is up to you to qualify the resource. Still - most of us here... .Are we not helping other's who have busted tires and are looking for help? As we continue with our own flats.  I can't buy the "you must focus on yourself to the exclusion of everyone else" as a worthy or rewarding principle.

DAS - I agree with you and couldn't leave someone behind that asked for help.  But I think the point of the 'race' was that we have win our individual race before we can be of help to anybody else.  It took my BPD experience to realize that in my race I thought I knew who I was and where I was going, but the reality is that I was really lost, without a map or tools, and therefore couldn't help anybody.  I've called AAA (the T) to get help and fix myself up to reach the finish line ~ then I'll be equipped to help someone in the future.

Correct... .this well written story was more metaphorically speaking... .if there's anything I've learned, it is that I help my SO best when I take care of myself. Not in selfish ways, but in healthy ways. In doing so, I give her the best opportunity for her to grow in healthy ways also.
