My 25 year old son has struggled with mental health issues since he was a toddler.  We have all been experiencing this difficult journey for years.  We love him dearly, but always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Hi Bonnie4,

Welcome to the Parenting Board, I'm glad you joined.  I'm sorry to hear that your son has been suffering with mental health for so long.

Living for years in a repetitive cycle of crisis surely does take it's toll on us.  At one point, when my daughter was 12 I was very close to having a full blown anxiety disorder

What's your relationship like with your s25?  Does he live with you?

My son is 25 also who still lives with us and we can feel in the whole house when his mood has changed, were hoping he's going to get help with him being housed as I feel I can't cope with his venting I need to be able to support him from a distance then that way it doesn't affect the whole family and I can step away when I choose.

My son is almost 24 and he no longer lives with us- although he shares an apartment we pay for with his younger brother. We made the decision to not ask him back after he walked out just before his 21st birthday. It almost broke my heart, but I have to say that dealing with him by email was far easier than facing down his rage. We've gradually weaned him off financial aid as well and now he just pretends we don't exist-which is also fine as it gives us all a breathing space. I hope one day that we will be able to be in the same room together but at the moment we are all better off apart.

I hope you find a solution to your issues with your son.
