looking for support

Hi, I am just beginning the journey of discovery about BPD with my 17 year old daughter... .looking to share thoughts etc with those in a similar position. We have had three suicide attempts in the last 3 months. I have taken leave from work to support my daughter and am feeling isolated.

Hi there Swallow , welcome to the group , you've certainly come to the right place for help and support . I'm relatively new here too and after the last few months of absolute hell , I'm coming to terms with what our lives now look like now with my DD16 year old beautiful girl being diagnosed with depression and possible eating disorder after first hospitalization, then Bipolar 1, then bipolar non specified with BPD traits( after second hospitalization) and possible Seasonal affective disorder, then more recently severe depression with psychotic symptoms and BPD traits ( after third hospitalization in ten months). I guess she'll be diagnosed with full BPD the day she turns 18 and until then , she'll have a few " labels" thrown at her !
It's a rocky road , no two ways about it. I'm learning everyday . I'm up and down myself , some days feeling positive , other days burying my head in the sand and hoping this will all go away and she'll " grow out of it ", some days I accept , other days I'm angry and feeling reallv hopeless, scared and defeated .
However your feeling on any given day , you'll always feel supported here x

Hello swallow,
Welcome to the Parenting Board, we are glad to have you with us though sorry to learn that your precious d17 is suffering so as are you, her mom.
What kind of treatment is your d17 getting for her disorder currently? 3 suicide attempts is a major cry for help and must be dealt with intensely. Are you finding much professional support for her and yourself?
My d is now 19 and our family has been through many kinds of treatment options. She was dx at 12 w/various disorders starting with ODD and ending with emerging BPD. She is doing so much better now than when the journey for help first began. Please know that with education and support you can make a difference in her life and yours.
We are here to help you along the way.

Hi swallow,
I'd like to join
Yepanotherone and
lbjnltx and welcome you. I'm sorry to hear that you and your family are going through this. I'm glad that you have found us. It helps to talk to people that share similar experiences and can offer you guidance and support. You're not alone.
There are some questions posed and I just wanted to ask if you're getting help at home? How is your support system with family and friends? Do you find time for self care? Hang in there.

Hello. Our family too has suffered tremendously with our D16, multiple hospitalizations, IOP, PHP programs and ultimately Residential placement and therapeutic high school.
I can tell you the BPD Family has provided me with much comfort, experience and opinions - all judgment free! The tools / lessons are invaluable... .they truly help in changing the way we communicate.
Let us know how you are and if we can help in any way.
