18 year old struggled with anxiety and depression for years... .at least we were advised it was GAD.  She now exhibits so many traits of BPD. She blames it on me and the medical system for putting her on anti-depressants when she was young.  Says they permanently damaged her brain. Not sure if this is partially true but her behaviour echoes BPD almost exactly.   Pretty much isolated living on her own.  Recently started refusing going to her therapist. Very bright - accepted into every academic program there is but instead sends angry texts all day and night and eats and says her life is over.  She used to contain some of her anxiety by being very involved in sports. Hardly leaves her apt now and binges.  We are trying to get into a course for parents of BPD child but only on a wait list.

Would so welcome insight and input into how we can help.

WELCOME  YMCA,

So sorry that you have to find this place, but very glad that you did! You will find many, many other parents who struggle with educating themselves on BPD. This place has a lot of resources --->> check out the lessons to the left, there are also videos and of course reading other posts. I'm kind of surprised that you even found a group on BPD to help you, it's good that you are already on the list. I live in a very small coastal town in Oregon and there is NOTHING here. I have to drive 2 hours to see the psychiatrist. Can you share what GAD is?
It sounds to me that you are hearing classic BPD when she says those things about medication, and putting all the blame on you. The harsh things they say can really hurt. How is she supporting herself? Please keep posting, I'd like to hear more of your story and especially how the group goes for you.

Hi Y, it's awful to see your daughter struggle like this, isn't it.  The blame doesn't help.  My 17 year old daughter was diagnosed 4 months ago with a personality disorder and I think it's BPD but she won't go back to the Doc for help.  She's smart and don't well so far academically.  I'm worried she's not going to graduate from high school if she doesn't start to admit there's a problem.

I know it's hard but please continue to write down here what's happening and how you're dealing.  I'm here to read and offer any help and compassion I can.
