Hi,

My first time losing in this board but have posted several times in other boards. Last week at dinner, my daughter said at dinner that if I don't stop laughing then she would kill herself. She repeated it several times and while I was shocked by this statement I didn't feel it was serious as she was getting ready to celebrate a huge birthday party and has lots of friends. She doesn't seem depressed at all! But i feel certain she had heard mom say this many many times and was very aware of the reaction it would get from me. The child therapist has also addressed with my daughter this threat.

Anyhow, my reason for coming into this board is both my kids(10 year old twins) act just like their undiagnosed BPD mom. They say and do all the same things that she did. What can I do?

Hi Justaboutdone

Welcome to the bpdfamily

Glad you came here to reach out, it really sounds like you have a lot going on in the family.   It is very confronting to have someone so young make those kinds of threats in response to a behaviour of laughing that is very normal. I'm glad that there is a birthday party to focus on as this is a health normal distraction.

You mention that the therapist has addressed this with your daughter.  Are you able to re-engage with the therapist to discuss these occurances?  It's a positive that you are seeking early intervention.

You mention also that you have been on the boards. That's great and hopefully there are other parents that can chime in about these types of scenarios in younger children. Have you been able to avail yourself to the information to the right.  Bullet: important point (click to insert in post) There is much to learn and it's a great starting point.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hello justaboutdone,

I would like to join Merlot in welcoming you here.

Anyhow, my reason for coming into this board is both my kids(10 year old twins) act just like their undiagnosed BPD mom. They say and do all the same things that she did. What can I do?

You can learn new communication skills, as Merlot pointed out, they are to be found to the right  Bullet: important point (click to insert in post)

You can be there for your kids, listening to them and supporting them, which I’m sure you are probably already doing.

You say that the child therapist has addressed the suicide threat with your daughter, do you know how it was addressed?
