I'm a family member of a Tween girl with BPD behaviors. She was removed from parents at birth due to neonatal drug exposure and adopted by a loving family. Her family wants to do all that is possible to make life easier for her so any guidance to the appropriate path of treatment will be appreciated. AC

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

There's a book  written for parents who have adolescents with BPD by Blaise Aguirre that I recommend as a starting point.

What kind of behaviors is she exhibiting?

Having a BPD stepdaughter completely changed the way I communicate and how I think about boundaries (and self-care). When Your Daughter Has BPD was particularly helpful because it captures the significance of the family dynamic -- it's easy for BPD to tear a family apart and the book sort of emphasizes the family unit over the disorder, if that makes sense.

BPD is extreme emotional chaos and despite all signs indicating otherwise, kids with BPD require boundaries in order to feel safe, even if they do not gladly embrace those boundaries.

How often do you see the tween with BPD? How is your relationship with her?
