I have noticed a couple of things saved on the desktop of out computer lately that bother me. I am not well studied in Biblical things, so I was thinking you guys might be able to help me.

The first was a web page about 'christian domestic discipline' were the husband should spank his wife when she gets out of line to maintain a Christian household.

The other was a page about how women should be submissive and not speak according to the bible.

It has been on my mind, but really kinda freaked me out when he told me he was going to have to spank me to get the message across about me behaving.  ie doing everything he wants when he wants without ever having another thought or voicing any opposition.

I have not said anything to him( and dont plan to), but it is freaking me out!

Ugh, I dislike strongly when the bible is used improperly.

Luke 6:31

New International Version (NIV)

31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

and... .

The relationship of a husband and wife is that of companions. "Because the LORD has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, with whom you have dealt treacherously; yet she is your companion and your wife by covenant" (Malachi 2:14). It is not a parent / child relationship where the parent is training a child in the proper way to live. Husbands are not instructed to train their wives. It is not the relationship of a master to a slave. A marriage is a covenant freely entered into by equals. Nor is it a relationship where evil-doing is punished by the husband. The problem with the concept of a husband disciplining his wife is that it changes the relationship between the husband and wife into one never intended by God.

The Bible teaches that "husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church"... .Christ laid down his life for the church... .there is no greater love than that.

Unfortunately, a lot of people like to misquote the Bible when they want to assume authority.  The Bible, by the way, also says that as the husband is the head of the family, he will be judged more harshly by God.  People who throw Biblical teachings in another person's face usually has problem seeing any wrongdoing on their part.

Hi Sadeyes

I see you've gotten many helpful responses regarding what the Bible says. So I just wanted to ask: how are you doing?

Has your husband talked about this again? If you wish, you can formulate a response here on the board so that you don't have to think on your feet in the moment.

Have you thought about what you'll do if he tries to discipline you with spanking?

I do not go to this site from my home computer, so sometimes it takes me a minute. I have been thinking about how out there and wrong this is.

The post about parent child relationship is ironic, because I am always struggling to avoid this w/ me being the parent. He seems to want that in every day life responsibilities, and I am always trying to avoid it. He actually told me he would never have kids w/ me because I can't even make sure he is fed on time, clothes washef etc... .

If it ever comes to him 'spanking' me, I have no choice but to treat it like physical abuse. It is inappropriate on so many levels.

He has said nothing more, and I don't plan to. I don't see any benefit.

I think I am wondering if this type of thought is the 'real' him showing true colors. Taking out the rages, insults and other angry things, I don't see how I can effectively deal with beliefs like this. It scares me.
