My son recently tried to commit suicide. He shot himself in the head but survived. The trauma to our family was unbelievable. He is 30 years old.

He spent some time in a psych annex, but he has never admitted he has a problem.  I need help in trying to help him.

Hello, momofBPDmale, and welcome to this site

I am very sorry for the trauma you and your family has been through; there are few things worse than a child who is suicidal, and the pain we feel for them is almost unbearable. I know that trauma: I am here because of my adult son (36) who was recently diagnosed with BPD after a suicidal ideation that landed him in the Psych Ward of our local hospital. Shortly after he was released, he checked into a Dual Diagnosis Program where he was finally diagnosed with BPD, and he is now in the recovery process that is saving his life. He is doing great, and has been almost 8 months clean and sober at this time, with no suicidal ideations.

Is your son out of the hospital now? Has he actually been diagnosed? Is he in any type of therapy? Does he have any secondary diagnoses along with mental health, such as substance abuse? I ask this, because a Dual Diagnosis Program is for troubles like that, and the one my son attended was wonderful; he didn't even want to leave because he was learning so much about himself and getting better every day during that intensive 21-day Program.

His story is at the bottom of this post--the blue link: My Son's Dual Dx Pgm & NFT Story, if you would like to learn more about how a Program like that works. You are in the right place for comfort, understanding, and information to try to help you to help your son... .Please post more of your story, and ask your questions. We really do care

Hello momofBPDmale,

We are glad that you are here looking for information on how to help your son.  We are here to help.

Where does your son stay now?  Is he in therapy?

I will wait for your reply,
