Two of my adult children age 29 (son) 31 yo daughter) both with emotional maturity of 16 year olds.   They have both been diagnosed with Bipolar son severe depression anxiety also  the list goes on. However after reading here about BPD it fits them both to a tee! they both self medicate some with street drugs also

Getting help for their mental disorders is a never ending battle here in Western NC though. They have been in and out of so many BHU's in private hospitals. However the doctors will never send them to the State Mental Hospital which is just an hours drive away!  Where they may get the proper evaluation and long term help that they so need!  its all blamed on our Governor who HAS cut back on mental health funding. No room at the inn they say. Its been a nightmare. They have both attempted suicide several times, been homeless, jailed the list goes on and no one cares. I have called every mental health advocacy program i could find such as NAMI and they have no answers except for me to take care of myself. Its been so frustrating! anyway thank you for having me  Smiling (click to insert in post)

Hi Shi,

Welcome to the Parenting Board, we are glad to have you here with us.

I'm sorry to hear that you are so frustrated with the legal/mental health aspects of getting inpatient care and evaluations for your adult children.

It doesn't sound like your kids are very willing to seek out help on their own, is that right?

Do your kids live with/near you?

I look forward to hearing more about you and learning how I can help.

lbj

PS... .NAMI is right... .we do have to take care of ourselves through all of this chaos and pain.
