My daughter

My daughter was diagnosed last year, but because she is under the age of 18 they will not give her an official diagnoses. I am beginning to think that I also have and that my mother does too. I have done so much reading on BPD so far, and I feel there is so much more to go. My daughter has been in and out of jail so many times treatment for her is just not working. She doesn't even want to admit that she has BPD. I decided that I can't help her until I help myself. Besides I don't even know where she lays her head down.

hi and
I'm very sorry you're suffering like that. May I ask how old your daughter is and what kind of symptoms she's been exhibiting? You say she's been in and out of jail. May I ask for what offenses? You've definitely come to the right place for help. They are a lot of excellent resources here that people can start guiding you to once we know a little bit more about your story.

Hi Found303,
Welcome to the Parenting Board.
I's so sorry that your daughter is struggling so much to get through the turbulent teen years and you don't know where she is. That is so troubling. You must be frustrated and worried.
Have you sought help for yourself as yet, maybe through a therapist or psychiatrist? Most all of us parents have had professional help alongside our children. And in some cases we go without our kiddos to manage the stress of raising a disordered child, help us learn to communicate affectively with our kids and help us grieve the loss of what we thought being a parent would mean.
My daughter was dx with emerging BPD at age 12. She and I attended therapy together for over 2 years with little to no improvement on her part. It was definitely concerning.
What kind of therapy has your d been attending in the past? Did she go consistently?
I look forward to hearing back from you.

Hi found 303. Diagnoses can be frightening and it is confusing when the mental health profession hesitates to diagnose children. My S11 was diagnosed with "pre-borderline" tendencies a few years ago. Find a qualified therapist, for her and for you.
