Hi Everyone!
My family is falling apart and we now believe is it because my mother is suffering from BPD.  Of course, this is making me suffer too.  I would love to hear stories of how others have dealt with their Borderline parents.  I am married and have children of my own.  My brother is in a psychiatric retreat- and has estranged himself from my mother- and my parents are getting divorced.  My mother is causing me near panic attacks, major anxiety, and sadness.  The book Walking on Eggshells really helped and so does my therapist, but community support is something I think I need too.  Is there a way to drive her to be diagnosed?  Is it appropriate to call her therapist?  What did you all do?
Look forward to getting acquainted!

Hi Smilemama

Welcome to our online family! You'll find so many others here who are glad to listen and offer support. Have you read the list on the right hand side of our board? ---->>  Look near the top especially and anything you click on will open up with more information.

I am so sorry to hear about your present stress. That is so hard. My parents divorced when I was in college and how hard it was! My mom was an uBPD and my dad was quite codependent and dysfunctional too. I still remember the mental and physical stress of that time, bad dreams, and much depression and blaming of myself for their divorce. What feelings are you experiencing?

Getting a Borderline into therapy

This link may be helpful for you and provide some good ideas for you to ponder. Does anyone else in your family also think she may have BPD?

You are right that a support community is so very helpful, especially when the average person doesn't understand what BPD is. Everyone here on the C&H board has someone with BPD in their life.
