I need help trying to cope with having an adult child at home with BPD.  She has so many meltdowns and I am the only one who can comfort her or she wants comforting from.  I'm really looking for more tips on how to bring her out of her anxiety.  I have my own tools, just looking for more or possibly better ideas. HELP!

Hi lemra23,

Welcome

I'd like to welcome you to BPDFmily. I'm glad that you have found us there is hope! Is she diagnosed with BPD? Is she taking therapy?

BPD is an emotional dysregulation disorder where the person can't self sooth or self regulate it takes a pwBPD much longer to return to emotional baseline than a non. Self regualtion is self management it's something that she would have to do on her own. Here's more info on BPD anger:

What are the meltdowns about? It gets exhausting being the only one to help manage things.

How do you reassure her?

Is there a specific example of a meltdown you feel willing to share? Maybe we can help you work through this together, sharing different relationship/communication skills.

You're not alone
