Hi,
Finally ready to introduce myself after visiting this site for a while. We have an 18 daughter, almost 19 y.o dx with BPD this January. She has been obviously struggling since she was 17. Stopped attending school the last month of Grade 11. She has been seeing therapists since then, over 2 years now, and been on 6 different antidepressants.
She has intentionally OD’ed three times since last October, the last time was last week. She has been self harming that I know of for more than 2 years, but actually has been longer than that. Our daughter has decided to stop her medication cold turkey since her last OD and does not want to do DBT with her therapist, although she doesn’t really know what it is..
Our daughter seems to be a ‘quiet’ DPD, but is defiant and stubborn. She doesn’t have a job, but has passed out resumes, and seems miserable.
We are hoping she will soon be able to accept help and understand that life can be better

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

Hi Minttea and welcome.

We all understand the difficulties involved with this and I want you to know that you are not alone. This is a lot for you to take on board in such a short space of time, how are you holding up? It may be a good idea to read through the lessons on this site, there is some invaluable tools.

Hi Minttea
Welcome to the group
I am glad you reached out to us. Let me make you a cup of tea, mint of course, and we will talk. I know how frustrating it is when help is available but our children refuse to accept it. My 25 year old son also refuses to accept therapy. For the longest time it drove me crazy because I could not understand. This article helped a lot. Apparently there is this thing called asognosia which means people who are mentally ill really believing they are OK.   Ironically accepting them as they are may go further toward them eventually acceptiig help than pressing the issue. See if this helps
I look forward to hearing more from you.
Hugs
