What type of relationship are you in?
My 18-yr old daughter recently received a diagnosis of BPD. I also have a 20-yr old nonbinary child who has a diagnosis of BP2, but I suspect it may actually be BPD. Their father and I have been married for 22 years.

Who else (if anyone), in child's family, has BPD?
I suspect my mother has an undiagnosed personality disorder.

What is your child's strongest quality?
 Determination

What are the top challenges your child is facing?
Transitions - right now we are trying to support her as she transitions to a university from community college.

What do you find most difficult in dealing with your child?
 Communication and boundary setting

How would you categorize your child? Diagnosed? Undiagnosed?
Newly diagnosed with BPD and ADHD, previously diagnosed with Anxiety and Cyclothemia

What do you struggle with yourself?
 I have codependent tendencies.

Is anyone in therapy? Child? Parents?
 If so, what types?

I am currently in individual therapy. My daughter recently fired her own therapist, but is open to seeking further psychiatric evaluation and treatment, as recommended by said therapist.

What are your goals at bpdfamily.com?
To learn from the experiences of others and experience a supportive environment.

Hi sweetjann, I see you're back online! Glad to catch you, and welcome to the group.

Your two kids have a lot going on, so I'm glad you're getting more support here. Honestly, the best way to help those in crisis is to take care of ourselves first. It's like those announcements on airplanes -- put on your own oxygen mask first, before trying to help those around you.

I'm glad to hear your D18 has strong determination, as she moves from a university to a community college. Will she be living back at home, when she's at CC?

Also, as she has an official diagnosis, how is she doing with that? Does she accept the diagnosis? Does it seem "helpful" to her to have a description of what's going on, or is she fighting the diagnosis/label? Is she compliant with treatment? OK, I do see this here:

Excerpt

Good that she is open to further support. How has that search been going for her?

SO glad too to hear that you are in therapy. The more support we have when dealing with a pwBPD, the better.

You're in the right place to experience support from parents, family members, and others who must learn some nonintuitive skills and tools to cope with a pwBPD. Keep us in the loop on how you've been doing this week.
