14 year old child’s mother says she won’t have my last name

And that my mother “lost a granddaughter.” And that I’m abusive and awful and so on…..

This latest lashing out was awesome

'Lashing out' describes the verbal tirade very well. It is uncanny how the words flow, and somehow the try to target us where we could be vulnerable.

Of course people can call themselves whatever they want, but changing a legal name is a different story. Just recently a young friend of mine found this out when her child was old enough to apply for a bank account, learner driver's license etc. The mother had given the child her name all through school etc, on medical files, but the child's surname was her father's on her birth certificate!

The 16 year old now has all her official documents/bank account/driver's card/medical card with her legal name as per her birth certificate!

Thx for replying!  Yeah, the lashing out is a lot. Your example of the mother doing the name—I’d like to say I’m shocked to hear that, but, sadly im not shocked at all!!  Appreciate you sharing as it’s clear I am not alone.

All I can do at this point is to hold my boundaries and focus on myself and my own happiness. I’ve given so much and continue to get false narrative after narrative said about me. I’m over it.
