Help me to understand how to cope/respond to the silent treatment.

I am going through it right now. Yesterday morning she told we had a very serious conversation about her BPD and her alcohol abuse. As she walked out the door everything was fine, in fact I got a great kiss on the way out the door. Then I got a call from her, she melted down on me, then again last night. Now: silent treatment. And then one email I got said "one of our biggest problems is YOU think I have to listen to you." I have no clue where that came from.

So what is the proper response to the Silent Trratment?

Hi Jayhawk21,

Help me to understand how to cope/respond to the silent treatment.

I am going through it right now. Yesterday morning she told we had a very serious conversation about her BPD and her alcohol abuse. As she walked out the door everything was fine, in fact I got a great kiss on the way out the door. Then I got a call from her, she melted down on me, then again last night. Now: silent treatment. And then one email I got said "one of our biggest problems is YOU think I have to listen to you." I have no clue where that came from.

So what is the proper response to the Silent Trratment?

is she punishing you

- or -

is she wounded, feeling shame and has weak boundaries which make your words like heavy blows?

Is the silence punishment or self protection? Do you feel judged by her? Could that be how she feels herself?

In general validation is a connecting tool so... .
