I don't know how real it is but my uBPDh always manages to find an ailment to prevent him from enjoying family activities. He can't play baseball with S8, his shoulder hurts. Have to stay home all weekend, stomach is bothering him. Can't join us playing at the waterpark, his back hurts. So yes, I think it is another form of attention-getting and avoidance they use.

Same with my BPD exH, Mace.

You can look up somatization disorder.  It's linked to anxiety.

somatization disorder... . man momtara... I think you hit the nail on the head with this one... especially when I read most people with this were sexually and physically abused... it covered her almost to a T... . bad news is treatment for it is same as BPD... . CBT... she tried that and has left twice... . at least I have some insight to maybe why she has these ailments and issues... .

My dBPDh has quite a lot of illness and pain, these are legitimate issues and he has also been diagnosed  by his IC with somatization disorder.  He said that he is carrying all of his emotional pain in his body.

There are several past posts on this topic.  I think it is a mechanism to keep someone from abandoning them and to solicit attention.  My upwBPD has a continuous list of issues... shoulder, knee, tongue, eyes, insomnia, etc
