My 13 year old son is currently in the adolescent psych hospital and coming home in a couple days.  He seems to have done some good work in their on taking responsibility and is now open to working on his issues.  I'd like to buy him a book on coping with his symptoms- raging, black and white thinking, not taking responsibility.  The books on this website seemed geared to adults, does anyone know of any books geared towards teenagers?

Thanks!

That's a good question hopesky, I will look into this for you... .

In the meantime, here is a book that could help you help your son, written by Dr. Blaise Aguirre who specializes in adolescents w/BPD. It's called Borderline Personality Disorder in Adolescents

Here is also a video with him that's really good about early detection and intervention:

Have you read "buddha and the borderline" or "13 reasons why"? These are not books about BPD... .they are books about kids struggling with suicide etc... .I have just oredered 13 reasons why... .heard it was good.

After a little search, I still haven't found a teenage-specific book about BPD (no wonder, since they don't want to officially diagnose before 18 either... .).

However, I have read this little book, and thought it was an easy read, full of good info, but not overwhelming. It might work well for a teenager:

Borderline Personality Disorder: A Guide for the Newly Diagnosed, by Alexander L. Chapman PhD RPsych (Author), Kim L. Gratz PhD (Author)

www.amazon.com/Borderline-Personality-Disorder-Diagnosed-Harbinger/dp/1608827062

It's not expensive, but if you are not sure, you might want to check it out at your local Library, and if they don't have it, then through their inter-library loan program and see if you like it enough to buy.
