We waited so long for our son to marry and when he picked a woman with a 12 year old son we were excited to have a "grandson".  Little did we realize what would happen to our lives.  The honeymoon for us didn't last long.  She convinced our son to move to a town 300 miles away and in the summer when grandson came to visit she limited his time in our town to just enough to spend several days with her father and wife and maybe an afternoon or just dinner with us.  A surprise visit for her to hunt deer with her dad, but surprise our son had a permit too.   He spent 3 hours with us and they spent 3 days with her dad.  And son always has an excuse!  He is going to be 46 and is a new nurse.  We would be happy if he came once a year on his 4 days off (each week) to visit with his family.  But I am sure she will find a way to stop that.  Never thought my senior years would be spent dealing with such a horrifying situation.

Hi destroyed,

Welcome, and I'm sorry that you're going through this with your son and DIL.   I can understand why you'd be upset, given that you want to see more of your son and grandson.

What did your son say when you asked him to spend more time with you? Would he be open to having you visit him, if you're able?

It makes sense that you want to be involved with your son's life, especially now that he has a family. How are you doing--do you have a support system for yourself?

Take care, and please keep posting. It really helps.
