Does any contact during NC effectively 'reset' the NC period?

I am into 4 months of NC but there has been contact made on both sides mostly through third parties... .does this, in effect. reset NC?

I do not think there is right/wrong way or a standard of NC. I think the main goal of NC should be focused on allowing yourself the time to heal.
