Dear Group,

I was a new member on this group a few months ago, I have just re read my introductory post and I remember how terrible the situation was.  https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=239215

I have ordered the books, educated myself, read a lot, put my son in DTB therapy, and I am HAPPY to report that there have been incredible changes even just in 2-3 months of the therapy.

My son is back in school, he no longer suffers from debilitating anxiety, his self image is much better, he has made some friends in high school.

HE HAS STOP HITTING US !  Smiling (click to insert in post)

He has been able to get up alone, take his breakfast, his medicine, dress up, mostly without throwing tantrums and getting on his way to school. He has been going almost every day, except when he is physically exhausted (concentrating still takes a toll on him). But he is so much better ! Smiling (click to insert in post)

He no longer is in an existential breakdown, he seems to appreciate life again.

There has been some  really good moments with him recently.

I have also been able to change my way of relating to him and better understand his condition and the way I should behave in front of him. Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)

The therapist has been amazing. We started from very low, non functionning BPD. She has been able to find immediate ways to alleviate the situation. My son stopped hitting in ONE SESSION. other things take more time, and there is still much to do but I feel so relieved.

THANKS TO THIS GROUP, thanks to your advise   , I was able to get a grip and find the right way to start with. We had been stuck in years of the wrong therapy to no avail.

We still have a long way to go, but at least I start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and I know we are progressing towards that light.

Thanks again to all who responded to me.

Hi Deborah!

Wow!  What an amazing example of success. Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)

With so much to deal with as a single mom you managed to educate yourself and begin to make choices that are helping your son.  You are amazing!

I hope that you will respond to other moms and dads on the Parents board who need encouragement and hope.

We are all connected no matter the distance between us geographically.  It is the quest for answers and support for ourselves and our children that we so dearly love that ties us together.

Thanks so much for sharing your success! What a wonderful story of your journey so far.

I hope you continue to post and share your story on Parenting a son or daughter suffering from BPD board as lbjnltx has suggested. You will no doubt hit a few bumps -- often people in treatment will take two steps forward and one back -- and the other parents on the board can help you along. And you will give hope to other parents who haven't yet seen the success you have.

How are your other kids doing?

Hi Deborah75001

Welcome back and thanks for providing us with this update. I am very happy that the situation has improved so much and that your son is doing so much better Smiling (click to insert in post) This is great news! DBT has been proven to be effective for many people with BPD and I'm glad your son is also benefiting from it. When it comes to dealing with BPD, like many things, knowledge truly is power so I think it's very good that you're educating yourself Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)

These recent developments in your life are very inspiring also for our other members who are dealing with children who have this disorder. BPD is quite a challenging disorder but your story shows that at least in some cases significant progress can be made.

Take care
