VIDEO: "What is parental alienation?" Parental alienation is when a parent allows a child to participate or hear them degrade the other parent. This is not uncommon in divorces and the children often adjust. In severe cases, however, it can be devastating to the child. This video provides a helpful overview.

If you have decided that this is the approach you wish to take, ... you need to PREPARE.

ForeverDad and Livenlearned and others here on these forums can be an excellent source of how to go about preparing.

Don't just get up and leave.  You need important papers inside your home, etc.

Hi TowardContentment,

I'm sorry you're on the brink of divorce. It's hard -- often a difficult decision to make, and a lot of suffering involved getting to this point.

A good starting point is downloading or ordering the book "Splitting: Divorcing a BPD or NPD Spouse" by Bill Eddy, co-written with Randi Kreger (author of Stop Walking on Eggshells). Eddy was a former social worker, who became a family law attorney. He began to recognize personality disorders in high-conflict divorces, so wrote a book helping people like us understand how PDs and family court work together. I also like this article about personality disorder and high-conflict divorces in family law court. Even though this article is written by lawyers for lawyers, it has a lot of advice that you will see on these boards: https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=270440.msg12566140#msg12566140

How are you doing? Are you safe? Please tell us more when you're comfortable doing so, and let us know how things are going for you.
