BPD behaviours

I have noticed with my BPD ex that if I react to certain behaviours then that behaviour persists. If however I ignore that behaviour they forget about it and move on to a different tactic to get a reaction. Very child like!

However what I have noticed is that... .the more you ignore the BPD beahaviours (or as I see the game playing) the more they retreat away from you.

So my question is... do BPDs need you to participate in the game playing to survive? Will they become bored with you if you don't participate? And what exactly is the best way to metaphorically play ball or not?

Mine never retreated, so I cannot help you... .The more I ignored him, the harder he pushed me to the limit... .Sometimes there was no correct way to handle him. I think there are just strange moments of behavior. He always saw them as arguments though... .as if "see, we don't get along".
