My daughter

My beautiful, gifted, funny, unique daughter has borderline personality disorder. She recently diagnosed herself and wants help. I am on the east coast and she is currently living on the west coast. She is in for a visit and wants help. I'm glad she recognizes she needs help and knows she can't move on with her life without help. So we are in the process of finding help for her. She wants to go in patient which I am very happy about it. She wants help on the west coast with no family support versus getting help on the east cost where she would tons of support. I don't know what to do to support her the best way.

Hi lilyjay33,
It sounds very hopeful that she is accepting of her diagnosis, and is also still reaching out to you for support. The distance must be hard... .
If she is recently Dx'd, what kind of resources has she been referred to at this point? Have they given her options for local RTCs?
As for emotional support,.you may glean some good info from the lessons to the right of this board. Rest assured that you're not alone here

Hi Lillyjay33,
I'm so glad you are here and that your daughter wants to help herself!
I've been through the inpatient process with my daughter as a minor child. The number one problem I see when parents are looking for inpatient care/RTC for their kids is looking for something near them rather than looking for the best facility to help. I see that you and your d may be falling into the same trap.
I would encourage you both to vet facilities based on their merits and not location (within reason... .you wouldn't want to go to say... .Taiwan). If your experience in vetting facilities is anything like mine you will both learn a lot about what kind of treatment approaches are out there. Talk with your daughter about each one and narrow down the choices to what you/she (ultimately she) believes will work for her. As the narrowing process evolves the location will be dictated by effectiveness.
We are here to help you along the way and hope to share in your journey with your daughter.

We found an "educational consultant" that helped place our daughter in a therapeutic boarding school. We had no idea what to do, but knew we couldn't do this on our own any longer. We have now have some hope.
